Should a photo of an armed Marine be posted at a school?

Salem, Ore. - A picture of a Marine holding an assault rifle has sparked a wave of controversy at a Salem high school.

The problem began when the Marine's sister brought the picture to McKay High School to post on a classroom bulletin board.

I would be insulted (and not a little mad) if people who didn't live in my community tried to change policy.

As would I, but some schools have such a strict Zero Thought policy on guns that even a picture is a violation. If they were to look at the policy they might change it. Some (many?) people aren’t even aware of their school policies or even care about them.

Yes, it just cuts against the grain to butt into the business of a local school district, particularly, in Oregon. Those folks can be a bit cranky and territorial. I remember the bumper stickers from they 80s they had that read: "Welcome To Oregon. Keep Moving Stranger"

I heard an interview with someone from the school board,stating that it is not against the policy to show or display a picture of someone holding a weapon!

I am from Salem and I am appalled by this stupid idiot of a woman running that school!

I disagreed with that book's message. I interpreted the basic message that, without books we would have no feelings, emotions, or culture. But the vikings did not read or write and they had a culture.

And everyone was Depressed without books.
Books don't dictate people's emotions.

Way back in 1952 Ray Bradbury wrote a sci-fi book called Fahrenheit 451 in which he predicted that the world would become so PC that all books and meaningfull art would be banned...

He also wrote the short story "The Pedestrian" in the 50s (for Playboy, if my memory serves me) with a similar message. And to quote Claire Wolfe, "Orwell is starting to look like an optimist".

good theory but what're you gonna do when a few of those under educated fruitcakes Salem is gonna turn out wind up in your community? And start trying to dumb down your high school? We are all in this together and weenies have to be spotlighted and set on the curb.
