Why an ad campaign to associate churchgoers with wife beaters?

What was the pose in Zoolander - the El Tigre ? What would you call a pose in wife beating mode? And more importantly - is anyone inclined to be a wife-beater affected by such a public service ad campaign? I didn't think so.

Because their friends thought they were wifebeaters? Because of this the models(meatheads)sued? Well, why not have a chat with their friends to explain THEY WERE ONLY ADS, YOU GRAVY-SUCKING IDIOTS! I DON'T BEAT WOMEN!
Gee, that tact ought to work OK, don't you think?

Why didn't they just put the black line over their face like they do to the fashion victims.

I once heard of a girl who had to change schools because her face was used in conjunction with a story in a teen magazine about date rape. The photographers had a release, but she had no idea what the pictures were to be used for as they were taken during a shoot for a completely different article.
The kids in her school believed the girl in the story was the girl in the pictures, labeled her a "slut" and basically ran her out of town.
People can not comprehend the idea that these are actors and models, and they are playing a role.

This reminds me of that actor on 90210 who played Donna's abusive boyfriend.

Wow, life imitates art. There was a Friends episode where where no women would go out with Joey. Turns out a photoshoot he did was used for VD posters.
