Nope. Hadn't heard this either.
They need to fix this problem quickly! IMO, nuclear power is going to be vital in the future. We don't need any more "issues" to deal with.

Are the workers at these plants by any chance union?
The US Navy never seems to have problems with their reactors. Even with people like Jimmy Carter in the navy nuclear program there have not been meltdowns and reactor leaks.

What you mean is "the U.S. Navy never reports having problems like this". And if the commercial nukes had the luxury of bottomless pockets, they probably wouldn have the problems either.

I wouldn't know if the situation was usual or not. I am a little surprised that it didn't make the news sound bytes though.

Steam leaks at some of the older plants that have not changed out their steam generators are nothing new in the nuke buisness and most of these plants are currently scheduling them to be replaced to avoid any further situations as this reported incident. Nuke Power is a great tool, this just sounds like a typical tube leak inside the generator which they can plug and return the unit to operation.

The US Navy never seems to have problems with their reactors... Yeah, that poor sailor impaled by a control rod to the top of that reactor vessel in Idaho must have just slipped and fallen or something...

Wouldn't mind buying "Oscar 8" in South Dakota. I liked the area while stationed ayt Ellsworth. "Alpha 7" is closer to the highway but easier access to get to Wall Drug.

And if the commercial nukes had the luxury of bottomless pockets, They did when they were built, the taxpayer (technically called rate payers). Most nukes were built with construction extimates under $1.5 Billion and most ended up costing around $6-7 billion. The rate payers pick up the vast majority of the overage, the shareholders hardly suffered.

I must admit to not having a clue what "Oscar 8" or "Alpha 7" are. ??

I hear ya man. The regulations were heaped upon the Nukes to bring up the cost per kilowatt-hour in line with coal. Unfortunately, the costs kept creeping up. Too cheap t'meter!!!!! (snicker)
