Martin Katz on Terri Schiavo (Rush read it on air in his first segment Tuesday.)
The American Thinker ^ | March 29th, 2005 | Martin Katz

Posted on 03/29/2005 1:20:28 PM PST by rightalien

The essence of the Terri Schiavo case is simple, all ink and hot air to the contrary. We, as a society, the government and people of the United States of

America, have not managed, for whatever reasons, to permit a mother, deluded or not, to put water onto the lips of her dying child, brain dead or not.

Everything else, every legal, moral, theological, constitutional, or philosophical argument, is a sideshow, diverting attention from the essential issue of this case.

We have wounded our national character. By our actions, or inactions, we have placed ourselves one notch less, above the Nazis.

We, as a people, have so shamed ourselves, that we cannot look Mary Schindler, Terri Schiavo's mother, in the eye, and give her one good reason why WE did not allow her to give water to her dying child.

How we came to this shameful point in our national existence is a question that demands examination, and rectification. For our sake.

For Mary Schindler, and her severely impaired child, Terri Schiavo, it is too late. We did not find it in our collective hearts and souls, in our actions, to have mercy on them.

May We, and G_d, forgive us.

Martin Katz

Your link to a will to live didn't work. Could you make it a stand alone post. Many freepers need the information.

Another FReeper said earlier the link didn't work. Try this:

If you want to post it, feel free. Lots of good information that people should consider. Thanks!

I am really tired of people writing articles blaming "we" for Terri's awful situation. Michael Shiavo, who appears quite cruel and heartless to me, initiated this whole fiasco and was helped along by a rotten legal system of apparently crooked lawyers and judges in the state of Florida. If "we" could have anything to do with it, Terri would have been taken from Michael Shiavo the moment he denied Terri the use of her rehabilitation award and took up with another woman and given to her parents along with whatever was left of Terri's money. Most of "we" have signed petitions, prayed, cried and pleaded for just that outcome. "We" all saw how crooked the judicial system in Florida was in 2000. "We" in Tennessee and the other states are NOT responsible for the selfish, culture of death strangle hold the liberals have on the political entity in the state of Florida.

I must admit that I am thoroughly and completely bamboozled
regarding Judge Greer's authority.

It appears that Greer is Probate Judge... which is to say, he has
authority to oversee the distribution of my late Gramma's china
and silverware, etc.

However... from where and how does he have the power and
uthority to prevent a poor dying woman from taking a sip of
water ???????????

Why should He?

We can only appeal to His mercy, as openly displayed through Jesus Christ: He died for our sins, and rose again for our justification. He is the Way, the Door, the Offering, our High Priest. In His Name we have access to the Father by faith in His substitutionary death and resurrection.

Even if America had not called down these curses upon herself, even if there were no Roe v. Wade, no Hollywood, no corruption in our government, even then we need Jesus to be our Intercessor and our entrance to the Throne of Grace.

All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name, let angels prostrate fall...

At the very least, Governor Jeb Bush should respond to Michael Schiavo's explicit public invitation, by showing up unannounced with everyone and everything he needs to make a final and sudden decision on whether he should attempt save Terri's life right now.

Yeah, that would make for some good TV as the locals taser him................

Up to three weeks ago, mostly on the Religion (Catholic) threads.

Then suspended from FR for pugnacity.

Now, for crying out loud, the Schiavo case comes up and I'm getting pugnacious again, advocating a little civil disobedience (!) and castigating a certain Governor for failure to do what's right....

While the natural man in me agrees with you 100%, unless you can say you've rushed the Hospice, lobbied heavily writing, telephoning, emailing endlessly...sadly, you're one of the rest of us. Read my tag line.

Go on in your self-flagellation if you must. Your tag line notwithstanding, such a philosophy as yours is simply wrong, and possibly dangerous.
