University of Colorado Professor Ward Churchill, under fire for linking Sept. 11 victims with Nazis, drew what seemed to be a largely sympathetic audience of more than 400 people to UC Berkeley Monday.
Accusing critics of demonizing him, Churchill said that his comment characterizing World Trade Center workers as "little Eichmanns" had been distorted and that an ensuing conservative campaign against him posed a threat to all who would criticize government or society.
Churchill, an ethnic studies professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, said he did not express support for those who launched the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. He has argued that the attacks were a natural response to long- standing U.S. policies responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians in the Middle East.
Churchill was the featured speaker on a noon panel, "Academic Freedom in Peril: Prof. Ward Churchill and His Right of Free Speech," sponsored by the Department of Ethnic Studies.
"It is an attack on all of us," declared panelist Carlos Muñoz Jr., an emeritus ethnic studies professor at Cal. "It is not Ward Churchill who is on trial," said panel organizer Ling-chi Wang, an associate professor of ethnic studies. "It is the University of Colorado that is on trial."
Wang was referring to the University of Colorado at Boulder's response to a national furor that erupted in January over Churchill.
Assailed by political pressure from Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and others calling for Churchill to be fired, the campus announced last week that Churchill can't be disciplined for his opinions but that the campus would conduct a formal investigation of charges of "research misconduct" including plagiarism and fabrication and of misrepresenting himself as a Native American...

I was on a flight the other day, and the girl sitting in the seat next to may was livid. She was being forced to fly home early becuase her ethics professor at Loyola said if she missed his class he would flunk her out. She came home to help out at her sister's wedding.
Anyway, she said the professor was a constant Bush Basher and she was fairly sure he hadn't paid his taxes since Bush became the POTUS. He claimed that if he paid his taxes, he was supporting Bush's 'murderous' war. I'm sure this didn't bother him when Klintoon was dropping bombs on fellow christians in Serbia.
Another example of 'ethics', or lack thereof, in a university ethics department. The funny thing was, I think I had her convinced to contact the New Orleans IRS field office. BAWHAHHAHA!!!!!!
And the liberalism and stupidity of the faculty hiring committee at any university that would hire him is a major problem in America today.
"They are all on trial. Hopefully convictions will soon follow. It is time to clean out the Augean stables of academia by purging them of the decades long accumulation of filth and falsehood. But where is our Hercules?"
By virtue of a lifetime's experience in mucking out horse stables, I am an authority on accumulative manure. Neither the reek nor the volume compare to the proverbial "Augean stables of academia". Better the powers of TRUTH and of the People than Hercules.
Churchill's attorney Lane applies, in devious ACLU tradition, convoluted, specious and inverted reasons which cry "racism" in defense of Churchill. So? Psycho-paranoidal "white man" Churchill misrepresents himself as an American Indian to further his Academic career and to give weight to his hitlerian-histrionic rhetoric is a VICTIM of racism??? Isn't Ward Churchill just another white-man exploiting Indians? The liberal intelligensia pays big bucks to hear faux Indian Churchill rant against injustices to Indians. How come the *BRIGHT ONES* do not perceive how morbidly ironic and hypocritical Churchill's ranting displays are? The "enlightened academia" support fraudulent Churchill's avarice and animus. Ward Churchill's rants only benefit Churchill's own anti-capitalist's capitalist venture of HATE FOR PAY. Maniacal Churchill has a ready-made bedlam for audience: academia and its willing fools.
How bright is dim?
Next I expect to hear the ACLU is mounting an ADA defense. He is mentally ill, delusional, and therefore protected by the ADA.
Don't look for this to be resolved anytime soon. A member of CU's Board of Regeants said this process could take 2 1/2 years to complete.
"Next I expect to hear the ACLU is mounting an ADA defense. He is mentally ill, delusional, and therefore protected by the ADA."
LOL! UC should counter-sue the ACLU for extensive damages caused when Churchill was hoisted on his own petard.
