I always thought "Casino Royale" would have been one of the best Bond movies if they had played it striaight and by the book instead of that awful bomb they made in the 70's.

IMO there hasn't been a decent Bond movie made in 30 years or so.

I can't remember which movie it is, but in one of them there's a scene at HQ where he sort of shows off his knowledge of wine, and M is a little embarrassed by him.

You're thinking of Diamonds Are Forever.

Connery was the only one who really fit Flemming's description of Bond.

I read somewhere that Fleming had Cary Grant in mind when he wrote the books.

Not certain where, but I know I once read that he pictured "Hoagy Carmichael" as having the right look for Bond.

No one reads the books anymore, but Connery was the only one who really fit Flemming's description of Bond.

Actually it was Timothy Dalton who's portrayal of Bond was the closest to Flemming's conception.

The Brits have a problem, they don't have too many manly man actors left. Maybe they can find a strong woman ?

I might have to disagree here, although I liked Dalton in Living Daylights, Bond if I remember right was described as a man with black hair and a craggy, ugly face. Except that Connery had not much real hair when he was Bond, he didn't have that pretty boy face. That is why I couldn't do Moore, too pretty and silly for Bond. He did alright as the Saint though.

It's been decades since I have read Dr. No, but I think Bond was Scottish. His housekeeper, May, was also Scottish. Connery is the only Scot to be Bond. George Lazenby was Australian, Moore is English, I'm not sure about Dalton and Brosnan is Irish.

The school librarian thought I wanted Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (if you didn't know, he wrote that as well as Bond). I had a terrible time convincing her I wanted Bond. Back then they wouldn't let little kids read that stuff because of the 'sex' in it.

By the time I was tweleve I was reading all the horse books that tweleve year old girls read. I didn't get back into Bond until I was out of my parent's house.

I don't remember seeing that Casino Royale, but I like Peter Lorre alot.

Did you watch the Prisoner?

I remember the girls goit Nancy Drew and the boys got those two brotehrs who were detectives. Forgot their names.

From 7-10 or so I read the Oz books. Our little library in Logan West Virginia had a complet set. I can still rember the leather bindings and the great art work. Some of the stories were scary.
