DARWIN WINNER – March 2005

DARWIN WINNER – March 2005

The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Washington, USA, appeared to be the robber’s first (and last), due to his lack of a previous record of violence, and his terminally stupid choices:

1. His target was H&J Leather & Firearms, A gun shop specializing in handguns.

2. The shop was full of customers — firearms customers.

3. To enter the shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door.

4. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee before work. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up, and fired a few wild shots from a .22 target pistol.

5. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, the police officer with a 9mm Glock 17, the clerk with a .50 Desert Eagle, assisted by several customers who also drew their guns, several of whom also fired, The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics.

6. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop.

7. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt in the exchange of fire.

8. Here we are at the beginning of March and we already may have the 2005 winner of the Darwin Award. This guy is going to be hard to beat.

This statistic shows the need for gun control. Too many bullets off target.
A 49% hit rate is not unusual.
Frankly 1 shot from a Desert Eagle should be enough.
Wouldn't it have been easier for this guy to shoot himself?

Hmm. The original poster says Snopes verifies this story and does not offer a link.

Only 23 hits out of 47 rounds fired at close range. I think those boys need some more time on the pistol range!

My favorite is the guy in India? who climbed to the top of a tiger cage at the zoo to take a dump on them. The tigers pulled him into the cage and had breakfast

"Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop-the subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds"

These guys need to go back to the range, that is only 50%. Unless it was a large store, that is not that good.

My latest score is around 70% hits on a human sillouette targe at 10 yards.

You've got to ask
yourself one question:
"Do I Feel Lucky ??"
Well do you, punk ?!

47 expended; 23 wounds? Some need to get out on the practice range and improve their aim!!!!

Dang it, that ain't fair! If the clerk's DE-50 hadn't knocked him on his keester as I fired, I wouldn't have missed!

Really?

50% in a gun fight ain't gonna happen but in a low to no stress environment at 30 feet and a high quality familiar handgun you should be able to get 100% into a silhouette.

Well then maybe I should spend more time at the range, and some professional coaching.

I apologize if I sounded like a jerk.

At 30 feet you should be looking at a matter of inches from the bull not practically missing the paper.

It all has to do with sight picture, not worrying about recoil and practice.

I read about this years ago...
The perp was a mental case. Depressive I think.
He was hit buy only 2 shooters. The off duty cop and the store owner. He was killed by the 10mm the store owner used.
He had 4 holes in him when he was autopsied.
2 in from the cop's 9mm.
1 in, 1 out from the 10mm.

As they say... Dead Right There.
