Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., compared Vice President Dick Cheney last week to Saddam Hussein in the latest example of Democrats ratcheting up the ugly rhetoric in Capitol Hill's war of words on Social Security reform.
"Trusting Dick Cheney to protect Social Security is like trusting the fox to guard the hen house," Corzine said in a conference call to reporters.
Then, according to the Associated Press, Corzine compared Cheney's appearances on the road to "sending Saddam Hussein to campaign for democracy in Iraq."
Corzine's attack drew a heated response from Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman:
"Comparing the vice president to a tyrannical despot who murdered thousands of his own people is rhetoric you would expect to hear from Michael Moore, but not a United States senator."
Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., went Mehlman one better, complaining in a statement issued by his office: "Sen. Corzines comments ... . demonstrate [Democrats'] preference for partisan, childish rhetoric and gridlock over good-faith negotiations that will produce real, positive results for the American people.
Can't the folks in NJ get this guy to run for Govenor and get him OUT of the Senate?
Keep talking Corzine .. It did wonders for us on the last several elections
"Can't the folks in NJ get this guy to run for Govenor and get him OUT of the Senate?"
Don't worry about that, we wouldn't be able to stop him if we tried. The only questions are, can we defeat him for governor, and elect a pubbie in his place.
They are all jockeying for the gov nom, and everyone seems to be ignoring the senate race, so my guess is that the dims will run Menendez for senate. And if he runs against some unknown pubbie, he will probably win.
Not looking good in Jersey, not looking good at all.
Hey, didn't the same US Democrats say that Saddam was an essentially good chap and a misunderstood nationalist a couple of years back? If we look at this way this is in fact a compliment to Cheney. ;-) [/sacrasm mode'
I feel for you guys up there. I've gotten spoiled living in and being from a state that keeps electing Republican Govenors and Senators and keeps the RATS down is the lowest part of the state as possible.
I wish I could pass on some of the good Republican luck up to you.
Good point. The Veep has gotta be scratching his head trying to figure out if he just got complimented or kicked from Corzine ;)
The only thing worse is being from Massachusetts, and that would be me.
Sympathies to you too. You guys have the double whammy up there.
Corzine's comment speaks volumes.
About Corzine.
Protect Social Security? I guess he means protect the scam. `Rats want the scam to continue. I should try this scam as well, it doesn`t get any better does it? "Hey let me take part of your pay check for 45 years, then when you reach 65 I`ll pay you a grand or so a month but only after I take "taxes" out"
"Can you ever imagine a congressman comparing FDR to Hitler while we were fighting Hitler and his forces? The demonrats are a disease on this country."
Would have never happened. Not in public anyway. I've read in private the America First crowd bad mouthed FDR. But they had the common decency to keep those views largely to themselves and the media had the smarts no to publish it if it were uttered in public.
Shame the RATS of today don't have the political saavy of their predecessors.
Perhaps I am just naive, but I have to think that a significant amount of rank and file Democrats agree. These people just do not stop showing how little class they have.
Ever since Das-hole broke the rule about olitics ending at the water's edge it's been open season on W, no topic too small...insult too great.
Saddam murderers upward of a million people and Corzine compares Cheney to him? Okaaaaay.
Evidently the left believes Cheney could be a candidate in 2008 - so the personal attacks have begun.
They must protect Hillary's chances - and the only way is to demonize Cheney. They were smearing Condi last month - until she said she was not planning to run in 2008.
These whackos are so easy to read!
Yep, I realize that - just have a look at almost any news outlet on any given day.
I don't live in the US, and like I said, perhaps I am naive, but surely there are a lot of dems that just cannot hold their noses at this stuff anymore - are disgusted and also must realize that they are just being manipulated.
The only one who seems to not ahve been able to hold their nose anymore at the RATS behavior is Zell Miller. And he is such a loyal traditional Democrat that he quit rather than switch parties.
