Air America's difficult birth, caught on film HBO's documentary on the liberal-leaning radio network chronicles its tumultuous first weeks.
Air America Radio, the left-wing talk-radio venture featuring Al Franken, Randi Rhodes and Janeane Garofalo, celebrates its first anniversary on the air this week, and HBO is giving it a rather macabre gift to mark the occasion: a searing, warts-and-all documentary showing just how perilously close the fledgling network came to oblivion in its first weeks.
"Left of the Dial," which premieres on HBO on Thursday (8 p.m.), was supposed to be a relatively benign insider's account of the launch of Air America, which was in turn intended to be both a counterweight to the dominance of conservative voices in talk radio and proof that there is a market for left-wing voices in the heartland.
Neither project turned out quite as expected. Instead of a triumphant beginning and universal acclaim, the new network found itself tossed off the air in Los Angeles and Chicago and teetering on the brink of bankruptcy just weeks after its launch, owing to what the film portrays as the murky financial doings of Evan Cohen, the network's co-founder and one of its primary investors.

Where's abortion when it's needed?
I bet this little radio station has recieved more press than, all the so called right-winged radio in the last ten years combined.
No, No, root for them to just hang in there. Liberals need all of the money sucking albatrosses and white elephants they can get around their necks.
Bump for later.
There is nothing to abort if there are no brains and a heartbeat.
Happy Birthday, Err America.
HAHAHAHAHA.
Err America sure helped Jacques Effin Kerry stay out of the WH!
What would they do without Soros and the other DUmmies?
Gunnery Sargent Thomas Highway would call it a "Charlie Foxtrot".
Wow, the ratings from this exciting epic should set new records for HBO. I am sure the public has just been clammoring for this to be filmed,
"You shouldn't litter, Faggetti. It's ecologically unsound."
Over at LGF, noise was made that the documentary doesn't make them look so good after all. But even though I get HBO, I'm not planning to watch it. The fact that they keep that @#$%head Bill Maher on the air is bad enough, but now this. What are they - 24th in their market in New York? I don't know if any West Coast Freepers know their numbers (they took over "The Quake" here in the S.F. Bay Area), but if they're higher than No. 20 I'll be surprised, especially since Rush still wins the 9:00 to 12:00 slot, if I'm not mistaken. Air America sucks, big time. If rednecks had started a radio station that only had 51 stations and a national listening audience whose numbers rivaled CNN, they'd be called a failure by all and sundry.
And now A&E is running ads from that delusional periodical "The Nation" -- thank god for TiVo and the Fast Forward button. Although I'll be curtailing my A&E watching in the near future.
A big lol.
Al Franken looks like he was still born.
Janeane Garofalo = Err America's placenta...

You sure couldn't tell by the HBO promo. It makes them out to be the "little engine that could" saviors of the world. Of corse, HBO seems to jump at the chance to spew leftist propoganda lately.
