So 18 years ago, his father was severely injured and the whole family agreed not to prolong his pain. He was 65 years old and his condition was terminal.

And thank you! I must admit, I got into a few heated and emotional discussions over this issue, as there are folks here that are completely over the top on one side, and there are some very cold and heartless people that have shown themselves as well.

LARGO -- Gov. Jeb Bush on Tuesday appointed Dr. Jon R. Thogmartin as the new Pinellas-Pasco medical examiner.

Thogmartin, 36, Palm Beach County's highly regarded medical examiner, replaces Dr. Joan Wood, who retired Sept. 30 after nearly 20 years in office. Thogmartin starts the $145,000-a-year job Dec. 1. Until then, Associate Medical Examiner Laura Hair will serve as the office's interim chief.

Thogmartin was the near-unanimous choice of a local search committee to replace Wood. The Florida Medical Examiner's Commission also recommended him to Bush. Wood, 56, was forced out of office after prosecutors earlier this year dropped charges against the Church of Scientology, blaming Wood's reversal of opinion in the death of Scientologist Lisa McPherson for damaging their criminal case.

I found the expulsion of Greer from his church to be perhaps the most disturbing thing. Judges are supposed to rule according to their interpretation of the written law. Had he followed the beliefs of his church instead, that would be judicial activism at an extreme level.

How would people have reacted if Scott Peterson's judge refused to sentence him to death, based upon personal opposition to capital punishment?

I agree, FR will survive. But, it has been a difficult time. I simply hope that when this is over, we can come together and work hard to see that this will not happen again. Terri's gift to all of us to cast a harsh light upon something that I have now come to believe happens quite frequently.

Please cite the statute that allows a judge to forbid a person from being allowed oral food and hydration.
