Woman Accused Of Drunken Driving With Newborn

Beaver Dam 24-Year-Old Accused Of Driving Wrong Way On Highway 151

UPDATED: 8:26 am CST March 28, 2005

MADISON, Wis. -- A 24-year-old Beaver Dam mother is in the Dane County Jail, accused of driving her car while drunk with her 1-week-old baby girl.

The infant was in a newborn carrier but was not belted in, Dane County Sheriff's officials said. The woman also had an open beer in the car, officials said.

The woman was pulled over just after 1:30 a.m. Monday in the town of Bristol after driving the wrong way on U.S. Highway 151 and almost struck a semi truck and a pickup truck, officials said.

A breath test showed the woman had nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol intoxication, officials said.

She was cited for having open beer in the car, not having a seat belt on the baby, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and using unauthorized plates. She's also expected to face charges of operating while intoxicated with a child in the car.

The baby was turned over to the father.

Why should anyone be surprised that this moron drove drunk with her child in the car? We have so devalued human life in the US that there are some among us I'm sure who would think that if the child died as a result, as in the cited Albuquerque case, no matter, the child was expendable.

Its coming to this much faster than we dare to believe. May God have mercy on us all...

"Ah, a victimless crime. Where are the Libertarians to defend this woman from the drunk driving warriors?"

News bulletin: Drunk driving is not a victimless crime.

PS. Yes, I am libertarian, and you, are a moron.

Everyone driving on the road with her. She assaulted them with a deadly weapon (her car). Just because she wasn't successful in her assault, doesn't make it any less of a crime.

A 24-year-old Beaver Dam mother

Well, at 24 can she really be expected to be held accountable for her actions.

After all, she is still in "transitional adulthood".

Name the victim.

With that philosophy, a person randomly shooting down at NYC from the top of the Empire State building should just be left alone if they haven't hit anyone yet. The woman was sloshed and driving in the wrong direction, against traffic, with a baby in the car! Sheesh...

Why not move the most severe penalty up to the first offense?

Because .08 isn't drunk. Because a policeman can wave his magic wand and declare you "under the influence" when you are below the legal limit. Because your heavy handed punishment would do little to stop drunk driving, but would be a cash cow to our cancerous government and the insurance companies it's in bed with. But punishing the class is what this country is all about lately, so why not.

The woman most likely drove drunk with a 1-week-old in the car because she's friggin' sot. Somehow I just don't see her sitting around saying to herself, "You know, there are so many abortions and now with this Terry Shiavo thing, I think I'll get drunk and drive around with my baby and see if I can kill him/her. It really doesn't matter."

...while drunk with her 1-week-old baby girl.

That's a little young to be getting drunk with your parents.

"Did her husband bail her out?"

No. She's in the pokey now. They gave the baby over to "the baby's father," so that tells me there were no marriage vows. Husbands? We don't need no stinking husbands! ;)

Poor little kitten. A b@stard child whose Mom doesn't give one whit about her health and safety. The more I think about this, the more I think Mommy Dearest was just going for a late-late term abortion...

I could wave my magic wand and make you an Honorary Wisconsinite; but that's not necessarily a Good Thing, based on the home town nutcase articles I'm finding in the news today, LOL!
