Lots of empty seats at that meeting.

Lots more empty than just the seats. The pockets, however, are full.

If there was a tsunami I doubt it would affect Thailand, India, or Sri Lanka much at all, if it was a rupturing of the subduction zone south of the December Rupture.

However, it would hit Diego Garcia, Madagascar, and NW Australia much more than the December one (IF there was a tsunami, of course.)

Actually, they would be a day ahead of us (here in the States)
The IDL is the cut-off point... it is where a new day starts. If you cross it from West to East (ie, going from Japan to Seattle) you loose a day. The other direction however, you gain a day.

Lots of empty seats at that meeting.

A lot of them probably had walked out of the meeting by the time that photo was taken. How many times could you listen to one version after the other of "It's all Bush's fault!" before it got tiresome?

US Navy handout aerial photo shows the devastation along the tsunami-stricken coastal region near Aceh, on Indonesia's Sumatra island. An earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale rocked northern Sumatra in the same Indonesia region which provoked the Asian tsunami disaster in December, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.(AFP/US Navy-HO/File)

Strong Quake Hits Off Indonesia Island

BANGKOK, Thailand - A large earthquake struck off Indonesia's Sumatra Island in the Andaman Sea late Monday, and the U.S. Geological Survey said it was a major quake measuring a magnitude of 8.2.

Thai officials issued a warning of a possible tsunami, three months after a tsunami devastated parts of Indonesia and other countries in the region. The quake occurred at 11:09 p.m. local time at a depth of nearly 19 miles, the USGS (news - web sites) in Golden, Colo., said.

Japan's Meteorological Agency measured the quake at magnitude 8.5.
