Terri Schiavo Receives Last Rites, Communion
ABC News ^ | 3.28.05 | Mark Long

Terri Schiavo was given last rites, Easter communion and a drop of wine, but no bread as protestors outside pledged to take their fight to the gates of the White House.

One of the two priests who visited her room said 'death is imminent,' a devestating proclamation for those who spent Easter Sunday praying for a woman that they never knew.

Fewer than 10 protesters stayed overnight Monday in the rain and the wind.

But the womans parents claimed one Easter victory: Schiavo's husband Michael was forced to allow her communion wine.

'She recieved the blood of Jesus Christ,' the Rev. Thaddeus Malanowski said.

As her brother, sister, and brother in law watched, the Reverend held Terri's right hand as he and the hospice priest the Rev. Joseph Braun placed the droplet on her tongue.

Malanowski also annionted her with holy oil, offered her a blessing and absolved her of sin.

Terri Schiavo was given last rites,

I thought an earlier report stated she received last rites and a drop of blood via her feeding tube two hours before they pulled it? You can't receive Last Rites twice...

Something's fishy, and its not Lent...

You know whats fishy is they are trying to turn Terri into a political martyr. Thats what this is all about, its already drawn national interest so what better place for people like DeLay to weigh in on the issues. Personally I am happy that Bush is respecting the law, and standing his ground, its a very sad situation there is no denying that, but the law is designed a certain way, and Bush has the correct interpetation of it.

It's actually anointing of the sick, and it can be given more than once.

Yesterday was supposed to be communion from what I understand - not last rites which I don't know if she has had or not.

You can have the Anointing of the Sick as it is properly called multiple times. As I tell my confirmation class, it's for people in serious danger of death, before surgery, for the frail and elderly, and the seriously ill.

If anybody's in serious danger of death, it's certainly Terri.

Since you're such a big fan of the law, how do you feel about a judge who violates a LAW crafted by Tom DeLay and friends and signed by President Bush? Hmmmm?

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

My understanding also is that the CLEAR intent of the law was to compel a fresh review at the federal level.

Heck, there are civil rights laws which create federal causes of action (based on the 14th amendment also). Think of the Rodney King case. Think of federal habeus corpus in death penalty cases. Imagine if a federal court said "uh, no thanks" and ignored those laws too.

If there are meaningful differences I'm sure someone here will point them out.

I also read they are giving her a morphine drip for the pain. I thought starving her to death was supposed to be painless and humane. A state of euphoria.

Welcome to the forum, Jon. Judge Greer violated the law. He also violated Congress' intent regarding Ms. Schiavo as a witness, and he should have been held in contempt of Congress.

In such a suit, the District Court shall determine de novo any claim of a violation of any right of Theresa Marie Schiavo within the scope of this Act, notwithstanding any prior State court determination and regardless of whether such a claim has previously been raised, considered, or decided in State court proceedings. The District Court shall entertain and determine the suit without any delay or abstention in favor of State court proceedings, and regardless of whether remedies available in the State courts have been exhausted...

The last time Terri was deprived of food, her husband DENIED her holy communion. He also denied it this time except this time, pressure was put upon him which made him change his mind.

This man is a monster. He and the courts. Terri has been condemned to die by JUDICIAL TERRORISM!

Governor Jeb Bush, as Chief Executive of the state of Florida, has the authority and the duty to go in and get Terri and put her into protective custody. Perhaps Jeb Bush should take a lesson from Janet Reno. I doubt that Janet Reno waited for the Florida courts for permission to grab Elian Gonzales. I doubt that Janet Reno waited for Texas courts to give her permission before she went into WACO. Gov. Bush should have rescued Terri and then said to all those who want her dead, "Now, let's talk about it."

Pro-death experts tell us that Terri is dying a painless and almost euphoric death. Did the Jewish inmates in Hitler's concentration camps know they were dying a painless and euphoric death? Reports are that Terri is bleeding through the eyes and nose; her skin is dehydrating; her cheeks have sunken and her tongue has swelled. Hardly painless and euphoric.

The judge has just decreed that Michael Schiavo has the right to cremating Terri. The parents want her to have a Catholic burial, open coffin and buried in their family plots. When Michael Schiavo began his new life with another woman, i.e., a common-law wife and having two children with her, his marriage to Terri should have been anulled.

One day Americans will wake up and say, "What have we done?"

One source has stated that JUDGE GREER (who has dictated every aspect of Terri's treatment and mistreatment) ordered that when her feeding tube was disconnected, she be permitted to receive sacraments TWICE during her remaining life. Religious restrictions as dictated by a A JUDGE!!!!! If this is true it is OUTRAGEOUS!

One sacrament ("annointing of the sick" or "communion?"?) was done when the tube was disconnected, the second "court permitted" sacrament occasion would have been yesterday.

So now we shall see if she is "permitted" by Judge Greer's orders to receive any further religious sacraments of her faith.
