MEXICO CITY (AP)
"We were always taking the initiative," said Lavolpe, who received a congratulatory call from President Vicente Fox. "For 90 minutes there was only one team on the field."
The crowd booed the U.S. national anthem and a spattering of fans chanted "Osama! Osama!" before play started, and shortly after Lewis' goal.

My goodness, I am so impressed. I am now motivated to repudiate my support for sanity, democratic institutions, human rights, and economic progress, and be exactly like those wonderful folks of that country to the south who shout "Osama" at soccer games. (/sarcasm)
The US played an awful game. It's true that Mexico controlled the action -- the 2-1 score doesn't reflect the overpowering performance by the Mexican team. Give them their due on that account, anyway.
"Its alright, its OK, you'll be mowing my lawn someday!"
I'd put Mexico on it. That border is going to be the death of us.
Good point, I can only wish for improved border security and enforcement of existing immigration laws.
"A cold day in hell when the borders are closed with mexico"
Start up the freezer units!
Can't wait to get these prize hacks on a neutral field. The American squad is going to kick their punk *sses back to that smelly cesspool they call Azteca Stadium.
Probably run once they got over their shock of seeing pigs fly and hell freeze over.
If Mexico wants to get nationalistic, we can stomp them down once again just as Sam Houston did when he was fighting for the independent state of Texas.
We need a President like Andrew Jackson and a Congress with the backbone to declare War on them.
Yeah, I might get arrested, or at the least, ejected from the statium; but at least my insults weren't as pathetic, and un-imaginative as the Mexicans. C'mon .... Osama? That is so lame, it's somewhat embarassing. This is in the same league as yelling 'Yo mama ...'. The lowest form of insult .... it says more about the insulter, than it does about it's intended target.
I always want to cheer for the good ole USA, but it was soccer. If 'we' lose enough, will 'we' just give the 'sport' up?
That's a good come-back. At least it's not as lame and intellectually disappointing as 'Osama'. Face it, yelling "Osama" is pretty pathetic.
If there was anything of value in Mexico, Osama would attack them too.
You can have your 'roided up baseball players and NBA thugs while we watch guy who choose to play for their country.
We are always getting better at soccer.
Our Better athletes are getting turned off by the psycho's that run Football and Basketball (coaches, parents and teammates).
We are going to win the next world cup. We can all sit back and enjoy the Italians and Brazilians committing mass suicide. :)
and imperialism. don't forget imperialism. It's a lot easier to move in and take over Mexico than Iraq.
two more sports I don't watch. Baseball - only when I need a nap. Basketball - been years... I admit I like to watch my Patriots play, and I can even stand womens soccer. But not the guys. Toughest guys on the planet though. One second they end up on the ground and are on deaths doorstep, the next they are back up and running. I can understand my young daughters being that dramatic, but not grown men.
100% right BUMP!!
If they hate us, while we try to play nice, I say that we give them something to hate us about...
Round up every illegal alien and ship them back. If they've got "anchor babies," then ship them back too, and let them know that they can come back once they're 18 and can speak english in order to get a job.
Not long ago, there was a rally in Lawrence or Topeka KS that was all about "immigrant rights," and it was full of illegal aliens. I want to know why the government doesn't attend these rallys and do a giant sweep?
Mark
well, the way I see it, the ones who were booing and shouting stupidities aren't actually in the US, since the game was played in Mexico. I know alot of grateful Mexicans here in the US, and I'd rather the anti-Americans stayed there than came here, just like I have no problem with any honest, hard-working immigrant who appreciates that America is the greatest opportunity they'll ever be blessed with.
