After much hard work that has gone on for well over a year, it's been a week and 2 days since Terri has been without food and hydration.
Many asking the question how we could have become such a callous society as to deny a helpless human the basic necessity of food and water.
Terri's plight has brought to light many problems in the judicial system and opened our eyes to the fact that some laws need to be changed.
The work will continue to protect helpless individuals from suffering the same injustice as Terri.
emotions are surely running high on this, I have my first ever do not respond too list and I am an old hand at this. I have never seen such prolonged anger here at FR. I think the scars from this battle will run deep and heal slow.
I'm going back to finish watching "Ben Hur". I fell asleep watching it earlier.
Bless all of you. Keep praying for Terri..."Where there's life, there's hope" and she's not gone yet.
Updates? Please
Which channel is running Ben Hur?
I have two sons about your sons age and we have also discussed this. Even though they both claim to be libetarians they are equally disgusted by this and can't understand why he just doesn't give guardianship to her parents. We have also discussed when, and if ,they get married setting it up so that I'm declared their guardian in case something happens. From this and past experiences it seems to be the way to go. They have both agreed. Hopefully, love won't get the better of them.
A judicial travesty is going on. Legislative sleep is being poured onto the public. Evil is not stupid, even though it loses in the end.
Apparantly "we" do starve disabled people to death. The object of the Schiavo story is to get us to accept accelerated death, e.g., via morphine. Living wills are contracts for our own death. they are statemnets that express we don't want certain types of care.
We live in intersting times, indeed.
Until very recently, everyone thought Terry was a vegitable in a coma on life support. As the facts come out the firestorm will grow.
"Life is now only a privilege that can be taken away at any time."
That's a good point.
What is the default state we strive to be in? Life. That's our natural instinct. We fight to live. That's what medicine's purpose has been, to prolong life.
Now we have a state court that just set a precedent that requires one to prove that they want to live. Barring, or in spite of, evidence to the contrary, the courts have decided that death is the default preference of those unable to defend themselves.
It's akin to being guilty until proven innocent.
Not even living wills. It took less than that to put in motion the offing of Terri.
We need Constitutional amendment support to prevent more Terris. Legislation isn't enough in some cases.
See you later. Will be praying here.
Yes, we should. Jesus instructed us to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us. While he was being beaten, spit on, and crucified, he was asking His Father to forgive them.
YOU can help save Terri:

We are still taking actions. Tell your friends who care. Tell the world
Not on TV. I have it on DVD. :)
What surprised me is that Tom Harkin wanted to extend the Terri bill they passed a week ago to include "the thousands without a voice" in this country. He had a good idea with that. Judge Bork says that many are starved this way, in every state. We have now learned an appalling truth and maybe we can do something about it, regardless of politics...since we are all vulnerable as we have now acknowledged.
I've talked to my mom about this as well. Although I can't ever imagine being married again, stranger things have happened...but I'd want my mom in my corner if anything happened.
Decent nations don't murder brain damaged women against the wishes of their family.
We are not a decent nation.
I agree. I 've had people tell me she's in a coma. Thanks, MSM, for nothing.
YES, you note that the ghoul Greer has extended Terri's "wish fulfillment" beyond just "no tubes" (assuming with great skepticism that the Schiavo family reports about that are correct). He has extended it to "no feeding of ANY kind even by mouth." Now that's murder, and there has to be hell to pay.
I said the same thing....give me or your dad guardianship. We'll fight to the death for life!
So far, no problem. No weddings in sight. ~sigh~
I'll be here valleygal. I'm staying up in hopes of hearing from my son. He didn't call today and I'm sitting here wringing my hands.
