Now wait just a sec - morphine? I thought that she would feel no pain because she had no capacity for it. I'd better stop right here...

Mrs. Schiavo is declining rapidly and a morphine drip has been administered by medical staff at her hospice to help her ease her pain.
So much for a painless death.
Guess they just got tired of waiting, the drip will kill
her by itself.

The Schindlers, practicing Roman Catholics, have attracted passionate support from an array of Christian conservatives, right to life, and anti abortion advocates, who have been holding vigils outside the hospice. While the Catholic leadership tries to come up with a sufficiently nuanced position.

a morphine drip has been administered by medical staff at her hospice to help her ease her pain What pain? I thought starving to death was supposed to be a painless process? Besides, she is supposed to be brain dead so she shouldn't feel any pain.

a morphine drip has been administered by medical staff at her hospice to help her ease her painThis because death by dehydration is so euphoric, I suppose...

We must pass legislation in her honor to avoid similar barbaric outcomes (being starved/dehydrated to death while not in a PVS) in the future.

The Schindlers attorney said that Mrs. Schiavo is declining rapidly and a morphine drip has been administered by medical staff at her hospice to help her ease her pain. Pain? I didn't know that PVS patients feel pain.

The Schindlers attorney said that Mrs. Schiavo is declining rapidly and a morphine drip has been administered by medical staff at her hospice to help her ease her pain. If she has pain, she has awareness of sensations. Is she has awareness of sensations, then she is being executed in a cruel and unusual way.

Morphine decreases the respirations to make the execution come more quickly. Anyway you look at it the administration of Morphine is damning to Mr. pro-death.

I'm saddened by all of this as anyone, but lets keep in mind that it was the Schindlers' attorney who is saying this. Statement tailored for public consumption? I hope there is no pain.

You mean that starvation is NOT euphoric after all? What a surprise.
The entire lot of Nazis that have done this to Terri should be rounded up and locked in a secure room so as to share in the "Euphoria."
They could encourage one another in their final quest for peace.

A morphine drip for Terri and a morphine drip for the experts; it sedates that little, irksome voice that asks us about certainty. Do we know for certain the patient feels no pain? Do we know for certain she is utterly unaware? No matter. Morphine will smooth out the imperfections.

The removal of a nutrition and hydration tube, wrote Judge Lynch of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court,* would likely create some or all of the following effects before death.
The mouth would dry out and become caked or coated with thick material.
The lips would become parched and cracked.
The tongue would swell, and might crack.
The eyes would recede back into their orbits and the cheeks would become hollow.
The lining of the nose might crack and cause the nose to bleed.
The skin would hang loose on the body and become dry and scaly.
The urine would become highly concentrated, leading to burning of the bladder.
The lining of the stomach would dry out and the sufferer would experience dry
heaves and vomiting.
The body temperature would become very high.
The brain cells would dry out, causing convulsions.
The respiratory tract would dry out, and the thick secretions that would
result could plug the lungs and cause death.
At some point within five days to three weeks the major organs, including the
lungs, heart, and brain, would give out and the patient would die.
