Demonstrators Mary Porta, kneeling, and others pray for Terri Schiavo, Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, outside the hospice, where Terri resides, in Pinellas Park, Fla. Under increased security and with fading hopes, Terri Schiavo's parents asked supporters to return home to spend Easter Sunday with their families as the couple's severely brain-damaged daughter went a ninth day without food or water. How satisified can any of us be if the Republicans don't getting judges confirmed the will uphold the Constitution rather than rewrite it? This case in both the country and Florida has to be a rally cry for change in the judiciary. The Republicans have the power. There can be no more excuses.
It's not the Bushes' fault, but IMO they could have and should have done more given the circumstances.
I hate to say it, but it looks like Janet Reno has more balls than Jeb does.
I agree with you. I can't believe the calls for armed insurrection and the killing of police officers on this board! And to top it all off putting the blame on the Bush brothers! WOW!
Loonies!
I do hope this teaches a lesson to Republicans about poking the nose of the Federal government in where it doesn't belong to appease a pack of rabid radicals.
Also the President's poll numbers flushing down the toilet since this circus started ought to speak volumes to him about this folly as well.
These people won't be happy until the Constitution of the Untied States is a forgotten document and strongmen rule America by the power of the gun!
Once you start down the road with these loonies there is no turning back until the bloody end as far as they are concerned.
Or you will be excoriated by your radical friends and called a modern Pilate or worse!
What great "friends" these nutcases are eh republicans??
goodie for them...and that has exactly WHAT to do with anything?
True...so let's not play their game. Just because they have a God in the judicial, let's not try to have a God in the executive.
"The Executive branch is not God."
A fact indeed- but then neither is the Judicial branch even though they do think they are, and seem likely to keep on thinking that until God himself, takes the time to explain the facts of life to them.
Well, if by "more balls" you mean a willingness to order the deaths of a lot of people, including 17 children, in order to stop "child abuse" then yeah, she has more balls.
As a pro-lifer, I'm glad Jeb isn't like Reno.
I swear, seeing conservatives hoist Janet Reno onto a pedestal as an example of what to strive for sickens me beyond all measure.
Come now! It doesn't have to be visably written out on the sign. I have experienced what a lot of people think. They think these are religious right wing Republicans.
I must wonder when diplomats from Britain, France, Russia, China, Germany, et. al., will start presenting their credentials to the Supreme Court rather than the White House, for that is where the real power resides in this country.
While the Terri Schiavo case was a state matter, I find it hard to believe that the executive and legislative branches on the Federal level would not cave as thoroughly as did the governor and legislature of Florida to Judge Greer and his cohorts in the judiciary.
You may rest assured that evangelical Christians will not come to power in this country - it isn't going to happen. There will be no "theocracy." But don't bet on the leftists not taking over sooner or later. America has moved steadily since the late 1800s away from limited government, traditional morality and individual responsibility toward an all powerful centralized regime, moral relativism, and collectivism. What the Schiavo case means is that the conservative, Republican, and pro-life opposition to liberalism and secular humanism is ineffective when their opponents hold the cards.
You may well get your leftist kooks, though they will be cleaned up outwardly and considered moderate centrists.
She appears to be praying to you, but to me it looks more like a performance to draw attention to herself rather than to The One To Whom Christians pray.
Ain't that the truth!
Reno called out the troops in inappropriate circumstances. I don't condone anything whatsoever that she did. But Jeb doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to call out the troops even to preserve an innocent woman's life when she's being judicially murdered.
I read that Terri's tongue is swollen and bleeding, and her eyes have begun to bleed as well. Too bad nothing could be done to protect her. That probate judge, Greer, has the final word in Florida and he must not be disobeyed. It is high time that people realize that there was nothing anybody could do. Jeb Bush was powerless to do anything. Powerless.
The blasted Michael Schiavo attorney, George Felos, said he had never seen Terri look so radiant, peaceful in all the years he has seen her.
The judges and their doctors all agree that Terri is living in a perpetual state of vegetableness and doesn't feel anything. Nothing, no pain.
What hypocrites they are. They are lying. I heard today on the FNS that they are giving Terri morphine to dull her pain. What!!! Her pain, a PVS patient ordered to die by starvation is feeling pain?
What happened to all their pretty words about Terri not able to feel pain?
Well, Govenor Bush based on their lies this is a massive enough of a lie to overturn their decision to kill her in a most barbaric, heinous, horrific manner ever imaginable in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave...yeah, right. Where are the brave...our sons and daughters, courageously risking their lives and dying to liberate Iraqi's and Afghani's...but there are none for one mere defenseless disabled woman.
Makes me sick. I took down my beautiful American Flag this morning after I heard that they were giving Terri morphine to dull supposedly her brain dead pain. Liars, bullsh!++ers all. It's their brains that are dead as their craven hearts. Screw their laws, and screw them all
Yep.
Well said.
Hells bells, any guy claiming to have more balls than Reno, is delusional.
So, Jeb "calling out the troops" to go up against armed police officers doing THEIR duty seems like a reasonable thing to you? All it would take is one misfire, or one nut in teh crowd to do something stupid, and then people die.
That may seem reasonable to you, but it seems like defeating the purpose to me. How many people would have to die before you are satisfied he did all he could?
I don't see how anyone can call these people in the picture 'republicans". they look like democrats to me. Republicans don't normaly carry around stupid signs.
I read some silly nonsense somewhere that Mr.S had that feeding tube put in because he was a meanie, that she could take food and water oraly. Then give her some food and water oraly. There isn't a court order against that.
This is where reality sets in. Of course she can't swallow, which is why she isn't eating and drinking anything. Enough of these fake stories of nurses saying she can eat and drink on her own, and speaks and cries. If so, she wouldn't be in the situation she's in.
