Rick Barnard of Morris, Illinois, wass arrested Sunday after trying to bring Terri Schiavo Easter communion. per cnn... ALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said on Sunday there is nothing else he can do to save Terri Schiavo's life. "I cannot violate a court order," Bush said after returning to the Governor's Mansion from Easter Sunday church services. "I don't have powers from the United States Constitution or -- for that matter from the Florida Constitution -- that would allow me to intervene after a decision has been made." To Terri Schiavo's parents -- who have said Bush should do more to help their daughter -- the governor said: "I can't. I'd love to, but I can't." The governor has been under public pressure from Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman, and many religious groups to intervene further in the case. On Thursday, a Florida state judge denied a petition by Gov. Bush and the state Department of Children and Families to take Schiavo into state custody. (Full story) The Florida Supreme Court dismissed on Saturday -- for the second time in a week -- an emergency petition by the Schindlers to have their daughter's feeding tube reconnected. "I'm sad that she's in the situation that she's in," Bush said, commenting publicly on the case for the first time since Thursday. "I feel bad for her family. My heart goes out to the Schindlers and, for that matter, to [her husband] Michael [Schiavo]," Bush said. "This has not been an easy thing for any, any member of the family. But most particularly for Terri Schiavo."

I'm also tired of hearing about trying to prevent a constitutional crisis - why doesn't someone have the guts to cause one - ESPECIALLY WHEN AN INNOCENT HUMAN BEING'S LIFE IS AT STAKE! I ask all of you now, at what point, and for what cause, will these same leaders stand the firm ground when they have a fight that could bloody their hands? This I say is one of those fights, and these pinheads are trying to keep the blood off their hands by sitting on them..... May God have mercy on us all.
Or using them to pacify when they were needed to understand and vote with understanding when elections are around the corner...
Because of this, Jeb Bush will never be President of the United States.
The barbaric government-ordered murder of Terri Schiavo is happening on his watch.
The Prolife Movement has been rejuvenated and galvanized.
They will never again support Jeb Bush for any office.
Obviously euthanasia is the issue. Fix it in the courts. Jeb can't call out the national guard everytime there's a threat of someone being taken off the tubes.
This question will haunt Jeb Bush for the rest of his life.
The best reply of the thread, my sentiments exactly. Thanks.
Sadly, the MSM will attack him for thinking of being strong.
Big Bump!
...and all we need is a single issue Pro-Life Perot to pop in in 3 years, and we can all enjoy another President Clinton.
There are degrees here, too. Is there such a genius living at this time? Maybe not. They may come along only every thousand years.
Totally agree with you. He screwed up big time. And Terri suffered for it with her life.
On the Judiciary's being the weakest of the three branches of government, Hamilton wrote in No. 78 of The Federalist:
"The Judiciary, from the nature of its functions, will always be the least dangerous to the political rights of the Constitution, because it will be least in capacity to annoy or injure them. The Executive not only dispenses the honors, but holds the sword of the community. The Legislature [Congress] not only commands the purse, but prescribes the rules by which the duties and rights of every citizen are to be regulated. The Judiciary, on the contrary, has no influence over either the sword or the purse; no direction either of the strength or of the wealth of the society; and can take no active resolution whatever. It may be truly said to have neither force nor will, but only judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the Executive arm even for the efficacy of its judgments. ... It can never attack with success either of the other two; and all possible care is requisite to enable it to defend itself against their attacks."
The entire Constiutional order in this country, including Florida, has been torn asunder by the judiciary, WITH the acquiescence of the executive and legislative branches.
What we see in Pinellas County, Florida is simply another manifestation of this.
This would never be permitted to happen if the American people were virtuous and demanded a stop to it. They have not (yet).
Bump!
thanx, coming from you that's a real compliment
The key word here is "forced" euthanasia.
"If Jeb is following court orders, then his press conference in the middle of this last week was a sham and all done for political cover."
Well said. IMO, he should not have to worry about a political career, ever. We need leaders with guts and integrity.
No guts, no glory
Are you saying Jeb Bush should at this point practice civil disobedience?
and if he circumvented the law, he wouldn't get elected either.
Absolutely right.
The removal law did not require court pre-approval. He could have removed her by having the state police order the sheriff's to stand down
And that too.
To which I might add: the Pinellas County Sheriffs are in rebellion against the state of Florida. They asserted that they would "stop" the DCF from doing a job which is specifically empowered to them by the state law. And doing so under the authority derived from the governor's office - the state Constitution spells that out. Therefore the sheriffs were in defiance of the governor, their ultimate commander. That is quite simply an open rebellion by armed officers.
It should have been put down just on that basis alone.
