A man arrested in Buncombe County Friday was charged with threatening the husband of Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged Florida woman at the center of the right-to-die case gripping the country.
Richard Alan Meywes was arrested in Fairview by the FBI and the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, the FBI said in a prepared statement.
Meywes is accused of sending an e-mail putting a $250,000 bounty "on the head of Michael Schiavo" and another $50,000 to eliminate a judge who denied a request to intervene in the Schiavo case, the FBI said. The FBI did not immediately identify the judge.
"The e-mail also made reference to the recent death of a judge in Atlanta and the death of (a) judge's family members in Illinois," the FBI said.
Meywes faces federal charges of murder for hire and transmission of interstate threatening communications.
An FBI spokesman in Charlotte did not immediately return calls Friday evening seeking details of Meywes' arrest. He was arrested without incident, the FBI statement said.
It is not clear whether Meywes lived in Fairview. He was not listed in several published and online telephone directories.
Meywes was being held in the Buncombe County Detention Center, where he was expected to stay until he appears before a federal magistrate, probably on Monday, said Cpl. Todd Ernst, a jail official

OhMy-- I have said any number of times May all the Curses written in Deuteronomy chapter 28 be visted upon Michael ,and Felos, and Greer -and all who disobey Gods commands.I hope Mickael considers that a threat. The infidel.
Sure the legal system is not perfect, but it is a hell of lot better than the alternative.
This shows what a democratic, egalitarian venue the internet has become when even this nitwit has internet access.
I would never pay a dime to see Mr. Schiavo dead. But, at his sudden demise, I would gladly pay for a few kegs of beer in order that a crowd of people might thoroughly fertilize his grave.
:-)
Funny, my wife was saying the same thing just yesterday. She thinks that the misstress probably knows a lot more about this affair than anyone else; and eventually when Michael starts beating her, the whole story may finally come out from her lips in retaliation. Not a bad theory if you have a little patience.
I will bet you anything she doesn't look like this anymore..
What you said, and I'll gladly bring the BBQ, potato salad, pretzels and chips, for some extra *fertilizer* for the group.
Happy Blessed Easter, FReepers!
Time will tell won't it.
And I'll bring me dancin shoes and dance upon the grave.
...-how long will it take for Michael to turn his abuse towards his mistress?-
Interesting that the media isn't all over this gal - they'd love to ask her about their sex life, at the very least. She's been threatened by the Estranged One already, I'd say.
Requiescat in Pacem!
Interesting and revealing that they will expend any resources necessary to protect this guy, yet won't lift a finger to save an innocent person from starving to death, and in fact will go out of their way to do so. The law protects a person who is killing another. Time was that the law would protect the victim from being killed by the perpetrator. Now we protect and enable the perpetrator in his bloody mission. A world gone mad? I'd say so.
This is Liberalism today. Don't kill Muslim terrorists. Make sure they are afforded every right under "Our??" constitution, but starve a helpless innocent woman to death for the fun of it.
Someone needs to die in this case. You can decide for yourself just who that might be.
In 1776, I think they would have acted in a different way than we have. Rolling over to judicial tyranny was not their way. Today, sadly, it is ours!
Any woman who would knowingly commit adultery with this reprobate, this uncaring, selfish, murderer, deserves what ever she gets. To have children out of wedlock with this sleaze is even worse. This woman deserves no sympathy and no one should offer her any. A pox upon both of them.
Where is John Creasy when you need him??
Congratulations on your first NC Ping and welcome aboard!
Aye, Aye, and thank you Captain. :)
