Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.
Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.
''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''
The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

Anyone who reads the bible straight and is known by God can "talk for God." It's not like some toney club you can't join. But you will have to come in to the Kingdom... yes... "like a little child."
"Good. You're boring enough as it is."
Do you really think I care what you think of me, do not flatter yourself? Your sarscam was not the least bit funny and said more about you than those you hate.
I agree with that part. However, when official church policy was to kill heretics, well, church policy is church policy.
"If"? Now you're making assumptions. Fact of the matter is, the order IS NOT illegal.
My point is: So what? If somebody logged on tonight for the first time and genuinely traded views and refrained from ad hominem attacks, are their postings any more or less valid than someone who's been posting here since the beginning of the site? If it is, then somebody better point me towards the Rules Committee and set me straight, and I'll find a different website.
I don't care who has been here for how long.
But since yall are card carring death worshippers I suppose yall are sorry you missed those glory days. Too bad the Spanish ended all the fun huh?
No I am not making hypotheticals. "IF" in this case means "SINCE". It is not illegal according to the courts, but that does not matter in Jeb's case because it is the Legislature which would try him on that matter.
ooh.......now I'm a Nazi.....usually it takes a well developed liberal mind to make that leap.....yes I know, and Bush is Hitler too...right???????.......again, name calling does not advance your argument though I'm sure some DU'ers have some left over signs you can use
And your point is?
Well -there can be a long discussion just on that topic. It is much quicker to just say that all men are imperfect and can make errors; even leaders of churches...
I'll settle for Ripple if it's free.....debating these guys already gives me a headache so might as well drink cheap
One thing that really makes this all so difficult is that so many people post as if they're the epitome of Christianity. If it were that simple, would there be so many divisions within the Faith itself?
Even in a neighborhood church, members of the same congregation can interpret the teachings of Christ differently.
"Depends on the meaning of 'if' is"
Well, as a christian, I take offense t being referred to as a "card carring death worshipper", but I can overlook that as just ignorance on your part.
However, as an American Indian, I am DEEPLY disturbed at the blatant racist notion, and support of genocide I see in your comment "Too bad the Spanish ended all the fun huh?"
As I make it a habit to avoid conversations with people who think I should be killed because of my race, well, don't ever post to me again until you can rectify your Christianity with your hatred of other races. Fair enough?
No, very constitutional.
Agreed. :o)
That is true. However, there are some on the right like Randall (who I admire) who have a talent for handing their critics a bat to clobber them with. Moral guy, but a PR disaster.
I'm ready to go out and buy some grapes and squash them in my bathtub.
what about the old testement??????........can't blame Christ but we can blame God??....but wait, the holy trinity is one.......so know they are all to blame???>.....wow, im so confused.....
