Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:55:28 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.

Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.

For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''

In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.

''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.

''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''

The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

Nothing of the New Testament authorized such conduct, so you can't blame the bible.

I'm not blaming the Good Book. I'm laying the blame squarly where it belongs - on those who use it to justify any action they deem necessary.

What is Christianity without people?

What is a rule book without people?

If Greer's order is illegal, the judge and jury of that in Jeb's case will not be the courts. It'll be the Legislature. A Legislature which is fed up to HERE with the courts' activism.

So YES there is a tie breaker and it's perfectly constitutional. All Jeb needs is the cojones.

Did He tell you that, or did you come up with that yourself?

People practicing their interpretation of Christianity killed people. I'm not perverting anything. THEY perverted it, not me.

It is not fact. Because some men have usurped the Papacy or other Head of Church positions at various time in the world does not make it that the Church of Christ (all Chritianity) was responsible for the horrors. The men in it with all their faults have corrupted and continue to corrupt the work of the Church.
The religion Christianity did not make mistakes, the men in it did, because men at best are imperfect and at worst are evil.

"and he also equated Islamic Facism to Florida.....wow, I only though liberals made such leaps in arrogance...."

Public education is on full display. Nazi use to be the worst thing one could be called but those EUROS screwed up that when they equated President Bush to being Nazi like.

So now the big bad @ss word to use is Islamic Facism.

Maybe like David Koresh -he was a recent Christian.

Maybe there should be some bloodshed. This is a culture war--it has been a cold one for the last fortysomething years, maybe its time for a hot war.

I think it may come to that, but I'd like to have enough of a strategy in mind so that we're acting in a time and manner that suits us, rather than react to provocation. It may very well be that the war we have to fight will be political, not literal.

That's like condemning guns because some people murder with them.

Straw man. Guns are merely a tool, to be used or misused.

Christianity was also used and misused.

ROTFLOL

Read my reply carefully. I said that I have as much "power" as the delusional one,who imagines that he talks for GOD.

I'm afraid that you're on your own, where water into wine is concerned. :-)

Well, heck, by that twisted justification, any group can claim "they aren't us...they've just usurped our positions... Our philosophy's not evil--just some of the men in it...
