BREAKING NEWS: Amber Alert Canceled, Body Found (Jetseta Gage)

Police have canceled an Amber Alert after finding a body in rural Johnson County. A positive identification of the body has not been made.

The Alert had been issued after ten-year-old Jetseta Gage disappeared from her Cedar Rapids home on Thursday night.

Police located 37-year-old Roger Paul Bentley in Johnson County this morning. He is in custody but has not been charged.

Jetsetta's mother Trena Gage says the Bently was a family friend who worked on her car occassionally. He was at the home from about noon until eight and Gage says her son saw the 10-year-old get into Bentley's truck. She told TV9, "My son said he saw my daughter in the truck...she has permission because because we've known him so long. I got back at 8:30 and she was gone."

"I'm distraught. I'm just praying," Trena told the Cedar Rapids Gazette. "I just want her home."

Jetseta, who is mentally challenged, is a white 10-year-old, stands 4 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. Again, she was last seen wearing an orange coat and purple pants.

The suspect Roger Bently is listed on the Iowa Sex Offenders Registry for a 1994 Buchanan County conviction involving a white female under age 13.

The problem with doing that is that I don't think we can rely on the info to be an accurate portrayal of who is dangerous and whose names do not deserve to be there. I wouldn't trust it at all.

Child Abduction: Suspect's Brother Investigated

March 25, 2005, Des Moines -While police question Roger Bentley in the abduction of Jetseta Gage, authorities are also looking into the past of his younger brother, James. Both Roger and James Bentley are linked to criminal sexual cases involving children in the past.

They're also both linked to cases involving a ten-year old girl. Roger Bentley is in custody in the kidnapping case of Gage. In 1994, he was convicted of molesting an eight- year old girl. A judge sentenced him to five years in prison, but he served only two years. He's listed on the state's sex offender registry.

Roger's younger brother James Bentley is awaiting trial for sexually abusing a girl for two years beginning she was eight years old. Investigators say the incidents happened in Benton County, where James lives and Linn County, where the girl lives.

Another girl accused James of abusing her several years ago. But authorities later dropped the case, so James is not listed on the state's sexual offender registry.

There are some distinct similarities with these two cases. Roger Bentley's being questioned for the disappearance of a ten-year old girl. James Bentley's awaiting trial for abusing a ten-year old girl. Police won't say if it's the same girl. But they do say both cases involved a ten year old from Cedar Rapids. And in both cases, the victim has the same birth date.

I just got a shock, looking up the sex offenders list in this mid-size university town. There are 300 people and 20 have been charged with child molestation. I don't want vigilantes taking matters in their own hand, but I doubt people here realize how bad this is.
