Schiavo father: 'Down to her last hours'

PINELLAS PARK, Florida (CNN) -- The father of Terri Schiavo, the severely brain-damaged woman whose feeding tube was removed a week ago, said Friday his daughter is "down to her last hours."

Bob Schindler, Schiavo's father, said, "Terri is weakening. ... Something has to be done, and has to be done quick."

Schindler said the family's hopes lie with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia, which is hearing -- for the second time this week -- an appeal claiming Schiavo's due process rights have been violated.

Schiavo is in her seventh day without food or water since Pinellas County Circuit Judge George Greer ordered the tube removed for the third time.

The case is again in the federal appeals court, where a three-judge panel will rule on the motion filed by attorneys for Schiavo's parents.

Maybe that is the problem here - you seem to not think the brain is part of the physical body. She has had massive brain damage so massive that the cerberal cortex has shriveled and it has been replaced with spinal fluid. The outside body is healthy but a great portion of her internal body has atrophied away. Sadly, this condition is like a chicken with its head cut off - the body still runs around but their is no brain behind it. This is sort of what has happened to Terri and to other PVS victims - only the automatic functions of the body exist - on autopilot.

Cruzan remained in a coma for approximately three weeks, and then progressed to an unconscious state in which she was able to orally ingest some nutrition.

The human throat has an automatic swallow reflex along with an automatic choke reflex - which is why you hold the tongue down for people that are unconscious - If you put water substances into the mouth it will attempt to swallow. But if you put the spoon or cup to the lip no attempt will be made to ingest.

Mrs. Schiavo's rights matter. She would still be allowed to pass unmolested, right? She's being allowed to go without the feeding tube based on the decision of the court, not Mr. Schiavo's decision, right?

People in a PVS are not considered disabled - labeling her disabled is an attempt to make it look like euthanasia - the Florida legislature and courts have ruled that removal of life support from people in a PVS is not euthanasia.

Then have the Florida Legislature vote in an ammendment to their law stating tehy define next of kin in marriage as a husband or wife that while the patient is in a PVS does not engage in sexual activity of any kins in order to keep that status.

So undense yourself and learn a little about the law. The judge ruled according to Flordia Law and Florida law is clear that the husband is the legal next of kin and thus the decision maker - not the parents. The judge could not have reached any other verdict.

So she was not PVS.
