New bills are being introduced, to change this.
Each state has it's own rules, although the requirment to notify police that your are carrying is pretty standard. However they don't know if the drive has a permit, only if the person the car is registered to has one.
Pretty clearly a weapon useful to a militia, then, and protected under 'Miller'.
"he threw his license and gun permit on the top of his vehicle after he was outside the vehicle."
If, at this point, he would have just wipped out his gun I'm sure he wouldn't be going to court now.
The guy is a dimwit.
One - He's riding around with a felon
Two - He's not following the letter of the law as regards concealment in an automobile.
Three - He is carrying a weapon, upon which he is going to rely to save his life, AND HE HAS NOT EVEN FIRED IT!!!
You can still open carry in Ohio, no permit needed. But, they sure will get you for some other reason, if you try too. A whole bunch of us parading in downtown Youngstown carrying openly before the CCW was passed. We had to get a parade permit, but there was nothing they could do about us carrying openly. The police knew we were going to be there, and did tape the walk. Someone by themselves, would get stopped.
Then this latest incident probably is no surprise.
Here's my take on it. He probably did tell them, they didn't have a problem with it until they ran everyone's ID. At that point, it became a felony stop and things got ugly.
As to whether he knew his passenger was a wanted felon or not, I would leave that question alone. I once gave a co-worker a ride home, and got stopped for speeding. Turns out the guy was wanted for jumping bail and drug charges and I had *no* idea. Fortunately the cops believed me (after calling my boss at the time) and let me go, and I wasn't carrying that day.
Shooting trap with a 9 mm. That shooter must be really good, or very optimistic! lmao
Hm. I'm betting he did that for another reason.
(through PA system): "DRIVER, STEP OUT OF THE CAR. TURN AWAY FROM ME. THROW WHATEVER YOU ARE HOLDING ON TOP OF YOUR CAR. PUT YOUR HANDS ON TOP OF YOUR HEAD. WALK BACKWARDS TO THE SOUND OF MY VOICE. KEEP WALKING. KEEP WALKING. KEEP WALKING. NOW GET ON YOUR KNEES. LIE DOWN ON THE GROUND. LIE FACE DOWN WITH YOUR ARMS OUT. STAY THERE. DO NOT MOVE. OK, Bob, go cuff him and search him."
I missed the bus on the HKSP89's in late 80's....from 600 to 3500 as an investment. I purchase investments for the most part. I bought three of the FN's and have been plinking with one of em......other two are gunsafe ballast. I purchased 500 rounds for each as I figure if the grabbers get it banned it'll be a dollar gun vs the agenda gun they suppose it to be. I got some dies for reloading.....fine little plinker if ya just reload. Star has brass for sale already.......makes it cheaper but as ya say not "cheap as" per se !
I still carry the 1911A1 for defense......
Sad ain't it........
Lack of brass has been a motivating factor in leaving the FiveSeven in the safe. I could tolerate the $118 for the dies. Are you experiencing problems with stretching brass? The early reloaders were finding the brass stretched and needed trimming to reload successfully. Some resorted to .223 bullets instead of .224 to avoid crushing the case neck on seating. I would be interested in hearing your experiences and any tips on preferred sources for brass, bullets and preferred powder.
Just keeping it as gunsafe ballast for future investment appreciation has some appeal as well. I really prefer plinking with my big bore revolvers.
Goes to show you what kind of reporters there are, at this newspaper.
BTW, the Tribune is one of the few newspapers in Ohio, that will print your name, after you get your CCW license.
I was thinking about a few if the Five Sevens.
I think Hornady will be making ammo.
One wonders if there would be a market for .22 cal barrels, to allow one to reload using a wider range of surplus projectiles.
Ohio has some really stupid provisions in their car-carry CCW laws. This is thanks to a statist Republican governor, Taft.
Basically, you have to open carry while in the car, and you have to inform the officer that you are carrying.
If any part of your body, such as an elbow, brushes your weapon while in contact with a JBT, it's a felony.
Last I read, the legislature up there is trying to fix that.
my dies are NIB and have yet to load any...sorry if I implied that I had. I have read about the stretching also. Guess I may give it a try this weekend. Looking to get snowed in for a day so it'll be something to do.
I'm working on a 44 special self defense load that I can use in my 696, 329PD and my Charter Arms Bulldog Pug. Any ideas on that ?
