SEMINOLE, Fla. - A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo," authorities said.
Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall's Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell, 50, told deputies he wanted to "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo" after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said.
The feeding tube that has kept Schiavo alive for more than a decade was removed March 18 over objections from her parents. Schiavo's husband has said his wife would not want to be kept alive artificially.
Doctors have said she would probably die within a week or two of the tube being pulled.
Randy McKenzie, the owner of Randall's Firearms, said Mitchell pulled out the box cutter and broke the glass on a couple of display cases.
"He told me if I wasn't on Terri's side then I wasn't on God's side, either," McKenzie told The Associated Press.
McKenzie said he then pointed his own gun at Mitchell and ordered him to lie on the ground. But Mitchell fled out the store's back door before police arrived, he said.
Mitchell was later arrested in a parking lot and was scheduled to appear in court Friday. He was being held on $125,000 bond on charges of attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault and criminal mischief, officials said.
It was not known if he had a lawyer.
Yeah. That was my first thought . . . NOT! Hello! This guy is off his rocker. I hope he gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!
I an afraid we will be seeing more of this in the future. Someone had (re)discovered that emotion is far more powerful a mover, than is logic
The emotional responses in the name of defending the indefensible Clinton, were key in the evolution of this very dangerous practice. But it would seem that the "blind 40%" of the nations population, and their leaders, are not the only ones to play these particular cards.
He probably had a criminal record to begin with. Why else would he try to STEAL a gun instead of just buying one?
Well, that keyword is gone, now, thank goodness, along with the keyword "CHRISTIAN."
Agreed 100%-but I can see a lot worse things happening when Terri passes. Her impending death by murder is already drawing so much outrage-I swear, I would not want to be in that part of the state,or especially in Monster Schiavo's neighborhood, when Terri goes. God be with us all.
Some people here on FR have flushed their brains
And yet I saw someone advocating just that on another thread...
Hmm, Any missing freepers that we know of?
'Well, that keyword is gone, now, thank goodness, along with the keyword "CHRISTIAN."'
Sheesh! I didn't notice Christian there too! I saw red after seeing "hero" and didn't look anymore.
You are absolutley right. As I've said on other Terri threads, and my suit is flame resistant, this is very bad politically for the GOP. No matter what they do, they will either upset the pro-life base or they will upset the moderates. Either way, they will have diminished support and the dims, if they keep a low profile (not hard to do) can walk into the empoty space next election cycle. I live in Pinellas Park and I can honestly say that what the FL legislature, Jeb and George have done will cost them in the next election. I am a conservative and Bush supporter, and so are many of my colleagues at work. We support smaller government and local control of issues and what they are doing is blatant pandering. We are all as mad as h*ll that the federal government is getting involved in a family case that is a matter of state and local law. Too many people here want to see a dictatorial power used to save Terri. That's the wrong way to do it.
MSM will love this one: Terri supporters are religious-right crazies, etc. Does Terri no good at all.
For the far right to align themselves with Terry Randall is a huge mistake, imo.
I just heard on the radio some of the inflammatory, over the top ugly rhetoric that he's used in the last few days and was appalled.
It's not the correct way to bolster a case on the right or the left.
Sorry to show my ignorance, but who is Terry Randall? It seems the longer this case persists in the media, the more and more extreme elements are coming out of the woodwork to get their share of face time.
He represents the pro life movement within the Evangelical Christian community. Google his name (hopefully I've read it correctly). He is a deplorable person and as rabid to the right, in a dangerous way, as the malignant leftists.
Great post
I am sure that many activists in Nazi Germany did not want to get involved and be "radical". I am sure that many said that they could not help the Jews. I am sure they felt justified in their inaction.
When the Justice system does not provide justice, what are the options? Does not a father have a responsibility to protect his family? And what about us sitting on the side lines?
I am not advocating violence: please show me other options.
And I typed his name wrong. It's Randall Terry. Sorry :-)
This is a very "blue state" point of view. Clearly Florida is heading towards "blue". (Red states know that moderates come around to "red" thinking when it counts.)
No it's not. It's a common sense point of view. There are a lot of conservatives that don't want the federal government sticking its nose in places it doesn't belong. Local issues is one example. What about situations like Waco or Ruby Ridge? It's bad if the Democtrats are in charge, but good when Republicans are. Wanting a court system that shifts it's decisions based on bias to the left OR to the right is not an honest court system. The system worked in this case and to want to supercede it legislatively implies imparitiality is not what a court system should have. They should side with the politics of the day. Sorry, but I don't buy that and neither do many conservatives. We want Terri to live, but we also want a society based on lwas, not personal biases.
