Schindlers' Options Dwindle to Hearing Tonight with Federal Judge (Motion DENIED)
AP ^ | March 24, 2005

Posted on 03/24/2005 4:45:17 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

A federal court hearing has started in one of the last effort attempts by Terri Schiavo's parents to restore their daughter's feeding tube.

But the judge already has turned down the parents once. Bob and Mary Schindler are asking for an emergency order to reinsert the feeding tube in the brain-damaged woman.

The hearing in Tampa is before U.S. District Judge James Whittemore. He turned the Schindlers down once, as did a federal appeals court and the Supreme Court. A state judge, a state appeals court and the Florida Supreme Court also have all come down on the side of the husband, who wants to let his wife die after 15 years in what some doctors call a vegetative state.

The latest defeat for the Schindlers was today when a state judge said he won't go along with Governor Jeb Bush's request to order the feeding tube reinserted. The governor had said that new allegations of abuse of Terri Schiavo need to be investigated. The governor also tried to challenged the diagnosis that Terri Schiavo is in a persistent vegetative state.

I guarantee this forum will erupt into blame heaped onto the Bushes, despite everything they've done. The Democrats will be laughing at us.

We look like retards turning on the only people who did everything they could.

And we are.

On CNN - Jeb mentioned that he had been saying all along but no one was reporting it, that he could not go above his powers and would not do so.

either we are a Nation of Laws and we work to change bad laws and defeat Judges like Greer, or we become a Nation where the President or Governor can break the law when we think it is okay and favors our side but is bad if they break the law the other way. The same is true of wanting activists judges that are okay when they rule like we want and bad when they rule the other way.

This Nation is over 200 years old and faced many crises much worse than this one and survived. It is up to everyone on this board to become involved in their States to change the laws and defeat judges like Judge Greer. We need to make sure that something like this cannot continue to happen in this Nation. According to Judge Bork it happens all the time.

Very well said -

I also saw Judge Bork on TV earlier today - He made a lot of sense -

Okay, one last, really last, I promise, post before I log off. ;)

"I don't think the mainstream media here wants us to think too deeply about it."

That is definitely the case here.

When the news first broke people had conflicting feelings, because it was all new. They wondered if she had any life and should be kept alive, on the other hand, they felt revulsion that she was being starved/dehydrated to death.

But then, thanks to incremental propaganda, the feeling in the media now is that MS is a hero and has been unfairly villified.

Now, to be fair, I will say that I really have no idea what is the truth here. I have read all the links that I could but sometimes I still wonder. It may be that to some degree, he has been. I really do not know.

But in Canada now (or at least in eastern Quebec/Ontario), there apparently is no other side.

Anyone who wants to keep Terri alive is "needlessly prolonging her suffering." Don't worry, she feels nothing from this experience, no hunger, no thirst, because she has no brain activity.

And never mind the contradiction between the two because next up is a report on the NHL lock out and whether or not there will be a hockey season next year.

It was an amazing thing, to watch the media line up in conformity.

Sometimes things have to happen for the rest of the country to get up to speed. It takes something big to shake up the collective and get things done. I doubt that Iraq would be free now if 9/11 had not happened.

I don't think there would be such a call to shake up the judiciary if Terri wasn't fighting for her life.

There has to be a higher purpose for this. Sometimes something completely horrific has to happen for people to get off their butts and do something about it.

(Si vis pacem, para bellum)

What does that mean. I recognize "peace" and I believe "para bellum" means "for war". Does this mean "Hope/pray for peace, prepare for war?"

Can anybody confirm that????

It is possible that the report I heard was the tail end of a reporter engaging in some hypothetical meanderings. I will listen to the top of the hour update at 9pm EST to see if they repeat it.

Exactly, if we turn on President GWB or Jeb Bush we are simply fools - These two men have done so much good for this Nation (especially President GWB) - They are open about their faith and they want nothing but the best for America.

They have stood up for Terri and tried everything legally within their power to remedy this awful situation - Yet some on here are doing just what the Dem's and MSM want. Simply foolishness.

What? They were born with an anchor on their ass?

I'm sure there is a flight to somewhere else that would suit them just fine.

People who voted for those values last fall will be disenfranchised and the country will become ungovernable in about 10-12 years.

Oh, no. If certain people don't vote, the country will be plunged into chaos in a decade.

I'm thinking of starting a ping list for these zany posts.

How is America supposed to "feel"?

I'm afraid the Bush family's "gentleman's C" reputation is showing itself here. As a family, they have a high sense of honor, a juvenile flirtation with the faith of their fathers at best, and an absolutely slavish respect for procedure--as defined by their hired experts and attorneys.

In a word, they are cowards.
