Avalanche Control Round Lands in Backyard UDOT admitting today that a howitzer shell that exploded in the backyard of a Pleasant Grove home was from one of their avalanche control cannons. |
(KSL News) -- A 105 howitzer round that exploded in a Pleasant Grove backyard came from an avalanche cannon in Provo Canyon. UDOT Deputy Director Carlos Braceras says they shot eight shells Wednesday afternoon in the canyon, but the last one appears to have been over packed with gunpowder.
UDOT says they'll take full responsibility and compensate the homeowners for all damage caused. They're also suspending indefinitely all avalanche control cannon shots in Provo Canyon while they find ways to make sure this never happens again. That could mean the canyon will be closed more often because of avalanche danger.

It's obvious these guys can't handle a howitzer. Send them an Abrams tank.

That's almost as bad as troops at Ft. Hood sending SIX rounds off post. Almost hit a house and barn.

I was driving behind a MODOT truck on the highway in rush hour traffic. I notice a cardboard box that was not secured and did my best to get in another lane. Soon after I did off came the box and it's contents onto the highway. I honked and the driver, a young long haired woman drinking a bottled soft drink. She never looked over.

Supposed to check the number of powder bags prior to loading the round into the breech. Range safety officer's career would be over if he was in the Army.

Damn, ruined the 1200 gallon hottub, the 'lympic swimmin' pool with 15' diving board, the 40' teak deck with 2500 btu natural gas barbeque, ...
I see some very heavy damages coming.

Never, ever, say "REPEAT" when calling a cease fire. I took the one-week radio telephone operator course at Fort Sill, too.
First lesson: "Some day you may leave the Army and go to Hollywood. You may become an Alabama State Trooper [Black Instructor codeword for redneck bigot]. When that day comes you can say 'over and out'. So long as you's in the United States Army you will never say 'over and out'".
He was right, I never, ever once heard anyone say "over and out" on an Army network.
