Bush decries border project

WACO, Texas -- President Bush yesterday said he opposes a civilian project to monitor illegal aliens crossing the border, characterizing them as "vigilantes." He said he would pressure Congress to further loosen immigration law. More than 1,000 people -- including 30 pilots and their private planes -- have volunteered for the Minuteman Project, beginning next month along the Arizona-Mexico border. Civilians will monitor the movement of illegal aliens for the month of April and report them to the Border Patrol. Mr. Bush said after yesterday's continental summit, with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin at Baylor University, that he finds such actions unacceptable. "I'm against vigilantes in the United States of America," Mr. Bush said at a joint press conference. "I'm for enforcing the law in a rational way." The Minuteman Project was born out of a long-held perception among many residents that more Border Patrol agents are needed to handle the flow of illegal immigrants. Mr. Bush was criticized by both Republicans and Democrats earlier this month for failing to add 2,000 agents to the Border Patrol, as set out in the intelligence overhaul legislation he signed in December. The president's 2006 budget allows enough money to add only 210 agents for the U.S. borders with Canada and Mexico. Mr. Bush said he will "continue to push for reasonable, common-sense immigration policy." He has proposed legislation to grant guest-worker status to millions of illegal aliens already in the United States. The legislation has attracted scant support in Congress, where it is widely regarded as another amnesty that will encourage even more illegal immigration.

When someone acts this far out of character, there is something going on behind the scenes.

No, it's entirely within Bush's character and he has done little to hide it. Bush was quite clear about his open borders philosophy 4 years ago when he lobbied Congress to pass the 245(i) amnesty bill. Most republicans just wrote it off as meaningless posturing...it wasn't. Bush is very much serious about his intentions to fully integrate Mexico and Canada with the U.S. and that means unrestricted immigration.

You flip a coin upon which one side has the image of Vicente Fox, the other side the image of Jorge Bush.

Either way it comes down, you lose.

According to CadorBolin:

"If you don't like [Bush's Immigration Policy], then you're a socialistic DEMOCRAP"

Ergo ... most everyone on FR is a "DEMOCRAP". Just look at the poll section of FR. About 88% of us.

Who knew ....

I read on vdare that freerepublic has banned any criticism of Jorge Bush's immigration policies

I've seen posts and threads cut when the Truth got too blatant, yes. But there are more places to act and to talk than this site - or the internet.

BTW, there are still a few posters who have not understood your initial sarcasm.

Do you like voting for the lessor of two evils?

Should this be the way America is run in perpetuity, or eventually should we be able to vote FOR someone?

How do we get there?

Bush deals with Vincente like he WAS NOT the titular head, or figurehead of the Mexican Drug Cartels that run the country.. thats suspicious in itself..

Reminds me of when ALL democrats refused to believe that Clinton was up to his armpits in the Mena Drug smuggling affair.. and WORSE..

Maybe the shoe is on the other foot now... with the republicans being the ones wet in de'Nile..

I am a proud Bush supporter but on this subject he needs to come into line with the parties majority opinion by changing his stance. For whatever reason he feels the need to make the Canadians and Mexicans feel more comfortable about this than we do. I think the Minuteman Project is a step in the right direction to get the government to take us seriously. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I love my President, but he and I part ways when it comes to his handling of immigration.

The Whitehouse comment line is 1-202-456-1111 . I call it with some frequency and for the first time ever I got a busy signal. Hopefully the President is catching an earful. When I finally got through, I left him a nastygram. Let him know how you feel!

"Do your job Mr. President and secure our borders or we'll get somebody who will."

Not Hitlery, though, OK? This is one area where President Bush and I part company, as well.

Is it just me, or has the news this past week just made you want to start kicking and screaming and pulling your hair out because our ELECTED officials are NOT listening to those of us that put them into office, and the UNELECTED judges are legislating from the bench and there's not jack we can do about it?!?! Grrrrr!
