10-ounce newborn defying survival odds at Mobile (Parents are active FReepers)

MOBILE, Ala. - A medical team at the University of South Alabama's Children's & Women's Hospital have closely monitored the progress of a newborn who weighed only 10 ounces at birth on Feb. 15.

Dr. Fabien Eyal attributed the "incredibly low birth weight" to the fact that Malachi stopped growing before his birth. He put Malachi's actual development at 20 weeks at the time of birth.

Though Malachi had a rough day yesterday, his dad reports that today was much better.

Somehow that strikes me as symbolic.

Maybe 11 years ago when the wife was pregnant for the very first time, things went wrong and after a couple ultra-sounds confirmed that there was nothing in there, the Dr. suggested she have a DNC to simply clean things up. I was there when they did this and despite the proven fact that there was zero life-taking involved, it was still traumatic. That was the day my moderate fence sitting ended. I can still see the hose which they tried to cover with a tropical print, and all the blood running through it.

Since that time, I've had a theory about some of those that are rabid defenders of abortion: they have been a willing participant in one and simply can not bring them selves to deal with the reality of it. To avoid it, they deny that the 'fetus' was anything but a bit of tissue. It is really very sad.
