Langevin won't seek Senate seat

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. James Langevin has decided not to run for U.S. Senate against incumbent Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, Rhode Island Democratic sources said today.

Langevin, D-R.I., had been considering challenging Chafee, and has said he would make up his mind by April 1.

But Democratic sources, who did not want to be named because Langevin has not made his decision public, said the two-term House member has decided against a Senate race.

"Congressman Langevin will have an announcement within the next 48 hours regarding the 2006 campaign," said his spokesman Michael Guilfoyle.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., also has said he is not inclined to run. But he said this week that if Langevin didn't run, he would have to weigh the merits of staying in his current position - as a member of the powerful Appropriations Committee - or trying to put both of the state's Senate seats in the Democratic column.

Chafee is the only Republican in the state's Congressional delegation.

Democratic Secretary of State Matt Brown has already announced he will run for the Senate seat, and has begun raising money. Also mentioned as a possible candidate is former Attorney General Sheldon Whitehouse.

A RINO's loss is not a loss to the President's party. He votes with the Dems on every important issue.

It's spelled jerk.

RI senate is already two commies.
Langevin is a monster, Kennedy is in a persistent vegetative state and should be concerned about what is happening to Terry.

Didn't Chaffee vote for John Kerry in November?

The Rats already have a reliable Senate vote in Chaffee, so why should they waste one of their representatives on a bid to take him out?

It didn't take him long to get it. He voted right on Terri's bill and the rats told him to forget the Senate. This is good because we hold the seat. I will never accept that a weak rino isn't better than a rat anyday.
