St. Francis Catholic worker Lana Jacobs (R) is arrested by Pinellas Park, Florida police officers and is handcuffed by Pinellas Park Sheriff deputies for trespassing. Jacobs tried to take a bottle of water into the Woodside Hospice for Terri Schiavo in Pinellas Park, Florida on March 22, 2005. I have been a Freeper for 7+ years and this issue has been one of the most divisive...pitting FREEPER against FREEPER and in many cases displaying the coarsest of our postings...
It started out small in Germany. Look where it ended.
Oh, they don't need juries, they'll just asign one of those Jim Dandy Florida judges. She'll be lucky to get off without a death sentence.
Thank you. However, I would still say that I'm not a member of the "pro-death crowd". Rather, I'm pro-law.
Amazing. These people are condemning themselves by their hard heartedness; even the cops who are "just following orders" in arresting the woman trying to succour Terri.
Some things are more important than keeping one's job, following orders, obeying the law, being popular, etc. etc.
Then don't blame the gestapo, either.
They were also following the law.
You are becoming visceral and it is not becoming.
Yeah, things like murder often tend to do that.
The cops aren't Nazis. This comparison isn't even close.
Unfortunately that executive order was Jeb's response to the Florida legislature passing that very law. But the court somehow found it "unconstitutional" for some or another reason unknown to me.
This comparison isn't even close.
They arrested the woman for trying to give a dying woman a drink of water. How much closer can the comparison get?
Did you even bother to look up what you're defending?
Yeah, the scale is entirely different. Here this is only one person being denied food and water, whereas Nazi guards rounded up millions of people and starved, gassed or worked them to death.
I'm not sure it is a matter of comparrison so much as slippery slope. The worry being is that if cops are willing to do this, what is the next step?
Plus, the track record of FL courts is abysmal when it comes to national issues.
Election 2000
Elian Gonzalez (remember the illegally issued search warrant that was used as a pretext for the raid?)
Now, Terri Schiavo.
Correct. And if the current law does not result in justice, then, by all means, the law should be changed. However, the law has to be changed through the legislative branch, not the judicial or executive.
The principle is the same.
Yes it is ironic that a life-giver would be jailed rather than the life-taker.
The bottom line: a disabled woman is dying of thirst while we dance around with semantics.
That fact trumps everything as far as I'm concerned.
Being arrested by yourself is just not smart.. Where are the Florida Main line churches in this conflict.? Would they stop and arrest 1000 ppl, all bringing water at once??
Be not proclaimers of the Word but doers also. Guees they only do candles for dead ppl. Alas!
