This study done by Pure Energy Systems shows that adding Acteone to a tank of gas can improve mileage dramatically.
How it Works
Complete vaporization of fuel is far from perfect in today's cars. A certain amount of fuel in most engines remains liquid in the hot chamber. In order to become a true gas and be fully combusted, fuel must undergo a phase change.
Surface tension presents an obstacle to vaporization. For instance the energy barrier from surface tension can sometimes force water to reach 300 degrees Fahrenheit before it vaporizes. Similarly with gasoline.
Acetone drastically reduces the surface tension. Most fuel molecules are sluggish with respect to their natural frequency. Acetone has an inherent molecular vibration that "stirs up" the fuel molecules, to break the surface tension. This results in a more complete vaporization with other factors remaining the same. More complete vaporization means less wasted fuel, hence the increased gas mileage from the increased thermal efficiency.
That excess fuel was formerly wasted past the rings or sent out the tailpipe but when mixed with acetone it gets burned.
Acetone allows gasoline to behave more like the ideal automotive fuel which is PROPANE. The degree of improved mileage depends on how much unburned fuel you are presently wasting. You might gain 15 to 35-percent better economy from the use of acetone. Sometimes even more.
Industrial hemp can be used for millions of things. It can be used for paper, fuel, clothing, and skin care products. But NOOOOO....Mommy and Daddy Government says hands-off....
So I guess a diabetic could run out, and whizz in their gas tank and increase their cars milage...Acetone is found in plants, trees, volcanic gases, forest and bush fires, and a product of the breakdown of body fat.

Well thanks for the answers. No considerable power loss and I'll give it a shot. My truck gets 13 mpg and my Mustang gets 9-10 so any increase at all is worth it to me.
Mine too. It mentions converting gasoline to a gas, then talks about vaporization, then phase change. Gasoline doesn't change to a gas in the engine, it is mixed with air...vaporized.

That won't even be considered by the fuel Nazis if they want to require it. I had to change all of the elastomers in contact with the fuel when they mandated changes in diesel some years ago.
Way way back the old Humble company came out with Golden Esso Extra. Before I got very far with the first and only tank my flexible fuel line completely closed up and had to be replaced. I did later buy a drum of it to test elastomers.

I don't see this as being too outlandish. Toluene is currently used by fuel producers to raise octane. It is also used by classic car enthusiasts to run older high compression engines. Just search Goggle for octane booster, it was a surprise to me when I found it.

I suspect one would also find it dilultes the oil coating the cylinder wall and greatly reduces engine life like methanol fuel blends do.
Of course, further READING of the article shows that this guy is in favor of using relatively tiny amounts of acetone (2-3 ounces per 10 gallons) mixed with gasoline, so I doubt there would be any effect.

Actually Acetone is one of the lesser hazards as far as chemicals go.

What acetone is though is extremely flamable. It has a very low flash point of 4 degrees F. Lacquer thinner has other chemicals in it that make it hazardous for humans.
Acetone will strip the paint and just about anything else off of anything. Acetone sometimes evaporates too quickly for paint stripping.
It costs more than gasoline per gallon.
around 15% in town. Never checked on the road. There is a group on yahoo that tries this stuff out. Never heard of anyone getting 30 to 35 % yet. It's only 10 bucks a gallon at auto zone. Klean Strip 100% pure.

Since acetone evaporates easily, its presence in the mixture would provide more vapor pressure in the intake system and quicker preparation for the combustion cycle.
