Lets try to have the same page to fight the MISLEADING OUT THERE!
Do you believe all references to Nazi Germany should be off-limits when discussing euthanasia?
Would you please answer my question,
"Why should thinking people not be allowed to discuss a case where euthanasia was implemented (Nazi Germany), and learn from it?"
I don't answer questions of people who play the Nazi card. If it's good enough for the president to ignore, it's good enough for me.
Checkmate.
This is the White House response to your accusation: From White house.gov.
McClellan being Scott McClellan, the President's press secretary. The question coming from a reporter in the gaggle.
"Q Scott, you may remember this from your Texas days. A member of Congress in Florida, Deborah Wasserman Schultz, got on the floor yesterday and said that the President, when he was Texas Governor, signed a piece of legislation into law that, she said, would allow -- when there's a dispute, would allow a feeding tube to be removed and that -- she was a little bit murky on exactly what the law was, but, essentially, she was saying that the President signed something into law that's contradictory to what he is doing now.
MR. McCLELLAN: That's absolutely incorrect. The legislation he signed is consistent with his views. You know, this is a complex case and I don't think such uninformed accusations offer any constructive ways to address this matter. The legislation that he signed into law actually provided new protections for patients. He had previously vetoed legislation in 1997, when he was Governor, which essentially would have sanctioned current law in Texas that allowed hospitals to stop providing life-sustaining treatment -- because under Texas law, prior to the passage of the '99 legislation that he signed, there were no protections. And so this legislation was supported by many; it enjoyed strong bipartisan support; concerned citizens, various groups came together to support this legislation and put in place new protections for patients.
The legislation was there to help ensure that actions were being taken that were in accordance with the wishes of the patient or the patient's family. And let me give you an example. Prior to that legislation being passed I think there was a 72 hour period where if the hospital notified a patient -- or the family that represented the patient that they were going to deny life-sustaining treatment, then they had just that 72 hour period to find a place to transfer the patient, that would provide the treatment.
This legislation, some of the new protections it put in place were --included, the ethics committee review by the hospital, in working with the families as well, making -- you know, to discuss those decisions, determinations. And it also provided a 10-day period, so they had 10-day notice to be able to transfer the patient to another health care provider. And it also authorized court proceedings to extend that 10-day period in order to extend that transfer, if necessary.
So it's just an uninformed accusation.
P.S. I din't play any Nazi card. I asked you a fair question you couldn't (wouldn't) answer.
Again: checkmate.
Good day.
I truly thank you for sending me that, despite your tone. If you search on my posts last night, around 1 or 2 in the a.m., you will see the article which I posted to.
I said it didn't sound right and I was pretty shocked. But I knew nothing of this legislation except what was in the newspaper article.
Keep telling yourself that.
I didn't mean to project a tone. I notice that I forgot to include the quotation marks at the end of my post. The last sentence, "So it's just an uninformed accusation." are Scott McClellan's words, not my own.
Thanks for explaining that. And I'm glad to hear this because I did not approve of the legislation the way the article portrayed it.
We've been predicting this for our country for over 20 years--as soon as someone is allowed to put a value on another life in order to decide if it can continue to live or should be killed (abortion), inevitably infanticide and euthanasia follow. We've passed those two hurdles as a society. What's next???
The reference of Nazis being off limits must be hitting to close to home for some of these people. Maybe we should compare them to Stalin and the millions that died from his hands or how about Sadam, maybe Castro would give them the warm fuzzies. They are all known to torture and kill their fellow mankind. Why did not they not allow people to be "starved" to death.....and here I did not realise they were just getting rid of the burdens to society. What was I thinking???
Thank you for clearing that up. I, myself, played into the media hype this time. You know, it's a very easy (albeit lazy) thing to do.
You are welcome.
I've never been in a courtroom where heresay was permitted. This is a new one to me. I always assumed if there was no living will, then they sided with life. Boy was I wrong.
Huh?
"Whoever lives in an open state of adultery shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083." Reportedly, punishment for a misdemeanor of the second degree can be up to 60 days imprisonment.
If Jeb Bush really wants to help Terri, why doesn't he direct Florida law enforcement to arrest Michael Shiavo under this standard and while he is in jail (even overnight before the bail hearing) have, or petition to have, a new guardian appointed, perhaps on the basis that Michael can't do the job in jail or must be replaced because of the criminal charges?
I don't know how new guardians are chosen but would think her parents are the logical alternative and they would direct her to be fed and given water again.

Damn shame about Peach. She used to be a sweetheart.

Margaret Sanger Plan Parenthood and Euthanasia!
Germany's Federal Archive released a report Tuesday revealing new evidence that doctors and other hospital staff used gas, drugs or starvation to kill the disabled patients as part of Hitler's programme of racial purification.
