Yep. A good response from the pastor.
Doesn't sound like the church discipline I'm familiar with. Did they go to him and point out the error of his ways? Give him an opportunity to repent?
This is sad in more ways than just a matter of a member losing faith in his Baptist church roots because Greer, no doubt, will become an Episcopalian...
Greer's membership in any church was merely a political convenience.
Calvary Baptist is a solid bunch, I think. Disfellowship seems to be in order.
And to think that Howard Dean left his church over a bike path. Dimwits are plain insane.
Other unrelated problems?
Judge Mengele (George Greer) would be a real star in the Third Reich!
Gee, between this, standing unabashed against homosexuals, and boycotting Michael Disney Eisner.....
....I might have to change to Southern Baptist.....

PLEASE, PLEASE Call or FAX the above Florida State Senators and urge them to pass the law Now in the FLORIDA Legislature that would save Terri's life!!!
Greer's soul is as black as his judicial robes. May he rot during the rest of his miserable pathetic life.
Greer responded with a letter severing his relationship with the church.
I hope that God will judge Greer more kindly and compassionately than Greer has judged in this case. I feel so deeply ashamed for him.
Why didn't the pastor do this a lot earlier?
Judge Greer also parted ways with Florida law when he failed to terminate Michael Schiavo's custody rights, as Florida law clearly states he must when faced with a "conflict of interest" on the part of the spouse. If a new common-law wife and two children doesn't constiture such a conflict, then nothing ever will. Greer's conduct should result i his impeachment and removal from the bench, regardless of this case's outcome.
Good for this church and this pastor.
Oh my.
Thats why we as Southern Baptists are autonomous.
We can police our own when we want to.
So I'm no Christian scholar, but wouldn't the Christian thing for the pastor to do is to accept Greer despite his being a sinner (as everyone is, right?) and try to guide him toward making godly decisions? As opposed to apparently giving up on him and kicking him out?
Pastor: "As a member of this church, YOU'RE FIRED!!!"
