Terri Schiavo And The Law (Rousing WSJ Editorial Defense Of Right To Life Alert)
Opinionjournal.com ^ | 03/21/05 | Wall Street Journal Editorial

We'd have more sympathy for this argument if the same liberals who are complaining about the possibility of the federal courts reviewing Mrs. Schiavo's case felt as strongly about restraining the federal judiciary when it comes to abortion, homosexuality, and other social issues they don't want to trust to local communities. In any event, these critics betray their lack of understanding of the meaning of federalism. It is not simply about "states' rights." Conservatives support states' rights in areas that are not delegated to the federal government but they also support federal power in areas that are delegated. ....

The "right to die" has become another liberal cause, part of the "privacy" canon that extends through Roe (abortion) and Lawrence (homosexuality) and the Ninth Circuit's views on assisted suicide that the Supreme Court is taking up this year. Of course, it gets a little messy when someone is actually being killed, and a husband with a conflict of interest is the one who claims she wanted to kill herself, but the Left apparently believes these are mere details that shouldn't interfere with the broader cause. Thus the discovery of federalism.

Conservatives have been taken too book over their alleged disregard of federalism in the Terri Schiavo affair. Today the Wall Street Journal in a rousing editorial defending the right to life, explains what federalism is really all about. The Left's new found passion for states' rights is convenient. They argued for the federal government overruling the states on subjects as disparate as abortion and sodomy. They are not in a position to deliver a lecture to Republicans about our country's constitutional principles.

"...all who hate me love death" Proverbs 8:36b

This really is what it's all about. There is a titanic battle for the soul of this nation being waged right now, and this case is squarely at the center of the battle. All those here at Freepdom who claim to be God fearing and yet try to justify being on the side of death are just totally void of any discernment and understanding of what's really happening. Just like the Pharisees in Jesus day who debated about 'tricky' parts of the law and got rebuked by Him for missing the big picture.

The bill before Congress essentially treats the Florida judgment as a death sentence, warranting federal habeas review. Mrs. Schiavo is not on life support. The court order to remove the feeding tube is an order to starve her to death.

And the MSM and the death cultist don't want people to know this fact. I have been surprised at the number of people that believe she has some sort of machine keeping her body from expiring.

Thank you. You are so right. The proverb quoted above sent a chill through me--never read it before but it is EXACTLY what is going on with the anointed ones who think they rule us all. Godspeed to Terri and her loving family.

I noticed that the anti-death penalty activist are not standing up for Terri. Amnesty International, and the other host of these groups who will do or say anything to keep a killer from his just deserts have been silent about innocent helpless Terri, but then Terri is an innocent woman, not a vicious killer.

I don't understand why the Reps and Senators don't site the cruel and unsual punishment clause in the Constitution more when talking about this. Terri is being put to death in a cruel and unsual way, we don't even put down sick animals or convicted killers in such a heinous fashion. It is the same argument that the anti-death penalty crowd use about the dp, that it is cruel and unusual punishment.

I am praying for Terri. I am also upset that the Senate coerced the measure to be limited to her alone. This means a valid constitutional challenge. Michael may win her death and money after all.

Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually bestow upon her your heart’s deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her as long as you both shall live?

We must sober up & start to consider the implications of keeping Terri on artificial life support indefinitely. Is this a back door way for the liberals to force passage of the "catastrophic health care coverage" & socialized medicine?

Cause who is going to pay for care of such folks like Terri, who can well linger on these machines for years? Her care isn't cheap. Will the gov't mandate confiscation of family assets to fund such treatment until the family is destitute. And then I suppose the taxpayer will foot the bill?

I know that folks who want to keep Terri on the machines have good intentions. But like the man said, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The RIGHT to Life is in the Constitution. If the Supreme Court had not determined that unborn babies were not persons Abortion would be unconstitutional. Just as this murderous Judge has determined that Terry's HINO is equal to ROE. This is About LIFE. I want to see if the Supreme's will AGAIN come down on the side of DEATH.

Terri is NOT on life support machines. She receives food and water through a feeding tube.
