The Midnight Coup (Los Angeles Slimes MEGA-BARF Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 03/21/05 | Los Angeles Times Editorial

Posted on 03/21/2005 1:30:35 AM PST by goldstategop

Republican leaders, eyeing an opportunity to appease their radical right-wing constituents, convened Congress over the weekend to shamelessly interject the federal government into the wrenching Schiavo family dispute. They brushed aside our federalist system of government, which assigns the resolution of such disputes to state law, and state judges. Even President Bush flew back from his ranch to Washington on Sunday to be in on what amounts to a constitutional coup d'etat. ....

Congress does act in other extraordinary cases on behalf of a specific individual, such as when it grants someone U.S. citizenship. But here, Congress is breaking new ground, trying to overturn a judicial decision by altering the Constitution's federalist scheme. This is the family law equivalent of the constitutionally banned "bill of attainder," legislation that seeks to convict someone of a crime.

The knuckle headed Los Angeles Slimes liberals had the effrontery to accuse Republicans of mounting a constitutional coup d'etat and to pass a forbidden bill of attainder. My... all this over a valiant effort to save a human life. This editorial deserves a MEGA-BARF Alert rating. Read further at your own risk.

Wow. The L.A. Times sure is trying to rid itself of that last, pesky reader, isn't it?

Michael Kinsley just crassly insulted half the people in my state and accused Flyover Country of crassly political motives in Terri Schiavo's case. This is the same newspaper that favors leaving no stone overturned in murderers' Death Row appeals. The chutzpah is stunning.

The ONLY REASON it happened at midnight was because of the Democrat party, whose rabid anti-life operatives decided to OBJECT in the middle of the afternoon to a vote.

The L.A. SLIMES can shove it.

What is really up with the libs? On almost every other issue they cheer federal intervention.

Yo!, LA Times! Homebound Roosting Chickens are a wonderful sight.

I never heard so many scumbag liberals invoke "states rights" as I have over the past few days.
The hypocrisy is so thick you can cut it with a chainsaw.

I'm flattered to be accused of being in favor of civil rights. Kinsley and his fellow liberals on Spring Street sound a lot like the old southern racists... the Congressional Black Caucus just took the same stand. Why, I plead guilty!

Anything Republicans are for, they are against. If we proposed a bill saying we're in favor of Flag, Motherhood and Apple Pie, they'd be against it too! I'm not kidding.

They are still trying to fool Republicans with crocodile tears over federalism and states' rights while the LA Times editors don't even believe in. This is an issue of separation of powers and a Supreme Judicial Oligarchy that refused to listen to the legislature and governor of Florida in a headlong push to set a precedent for euthanasia, a leftist pet project.

Don't be fooled by it, people and stand strong for life. This also has implications for the WoT, abortion and many other issues.

A normal legislative process is described as the equivalent of a coup d'etat against the Constitution. A law that simply grants Terri's parents legal standing to file a case in federal court is labeled the equivalent of a bill of attainder. Wow, when it comes to being Orwellian, liberals live in the Twilight Zone. They're more in a lather over this than some posters on FR!

This guy is gonna be up all night fuming that Terri may live yet. They just can't wait to slowly kill her and feel good about her husband's claim that she wanted to be killed. This is so black and white and all the liberals are saying "oh this is a complex issue". B---S---! It's very clear. Her husband and the bone head judge in Fla. and the lefties want to kill her and her parents want to take care of her. Simple, match over. Geez.

Amen. The vehemence of the LAT's reaction is more evidence kooks are now the mainstream of the Democratic Party. Common sense and being able to see things in perspective have deserted them. Its like the ghost of Howard Dean is roaming the Spring Street editorial offices!

[...]refused to listen to the legislature and governor of Florida in a headlong push to set a precedent for euthanasia, a leftist pet project.

Had this been a matter of a lethal injection to end her life, I doubt there would be as much of an uproar. But instead, they're talking of starving a person to death because they're too chicken to actually push for what they want.

This isn't about their pet project of euthanasia, it is about their pet project of making the courts king and us their serfs du jour.

"Midnight coup"

Interesting headline. Implies the elected majority in Congress stealthily staging a power grab from a single unelected judge under cover of darkness.

Michael Kinsley has Alzheimers'. I'm surprised he wrote an editorial that sets a new low even for the extreme Lefty mindset that passes for LAT thinking. You would think he might wonder what would happen to him one day - a judge could order him killed to further his quality of life. Nah, nothing must be allowed to get in the way of the Left's desire to pursue death in our culture at all costs. Full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes, appears to be the Democratic Party's new motto.

Michael Kinsley just crassly insulted half the people in my state and accused Flyover Country of crassly political motives in Terri Schiavo's case.

It was the talking point in the Globe, the Washington Compost, Seattle Times, and ABC News on Sunday. Talking about some untraceable GOP memo circulating The Hill Saturday to use the Democrat no votes on the Schiavo case Sunday, for political hay in 2006.

I'll bet the liberals at LAT had no problem with Clinton and Reno sending stormtroopers to remove Elian Gonzalez.
