It strips nothing from anyone, it only grants federal court review, that's it.

Courts can do it. Legislators can't can they?

"A bill of attainder was a legislative act that singled out one or more persons and imposed punishment on them, without benefit of trial."

Thanks be to God. I am thankful for all of the good people who care. I do not even know Terri Schiavo or her parents, but my heart was breaking for all involved in this cruel thing.

I raise little dogs, and the Department of Agriculture issues hand books on the care of dogs, and the standard of care is much higher than the care that Terri was given. A vet must give the lethal injection to put a dog to sleep, and no one is allowed to starve a dog or to fail to give it water, and that is considered a crime. And this has really hurt me that anyone would even want to do such a criminal thing to Terri for their own selfish reasons. It really really hurt.

This Bill won't last 5 minutes. Given that the USSC has already denied appeal. I'd be surpised if the first federal court didn't simply thow this thing out.

Um, Einstein, they threw it out because they didn't have standing (a federal right) to bring the case in federal court. That was the whole point behind tonight's legislation - TO GIVE THEM THAT RIGHT TO SUE IN FEDERAL COURT.

Why?

Because this bill is strictly for Terri.

God bless the president.

Greer and Felos (and Michael Schiavo) are in trouble if those goes to the district court, right?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush early on Monday signed emergency legislation aimed at prolonging the life of a brain-damaged Florida woman, Terri Schiavo.
"Today, I signed into law a bill that will allow federal courts to hear a claim by or on behalf of Terri Schiavo for violation of her rights relating to the withholding or withdrawal of food, fluids, or medical treatment necessary to sustain her life," Bush said in a written statement.
"In cases like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. This presumption is especially critical for those like Terri Schiavo who live at the mercy of others," he said.

Be afraid.

Be VERY, VERY afraid.

Aren't you concerned about WMD's? Why don't you want to tax the rich? And what about Soc. Security, you want to see the Repubs bankrupt it where there exists no crisis? And lastly, are you some kind of Fascist? (Sarcasm off.)

**The Federal court should bar Michael Schiavo from having further personal contact with Terri, and appoint a legal guardian until everything else is resolved.**

Amen to that?

Could the legal guardian be her parents? Brother?

Congress is empowered by the Constitution to determine the jurisdictions of the federal courts. That is not in dispute.

Are you saying that federal courts cannot impose a death penalty? I'm unsure what you're stating.

I still believe that this is very unlikely to save Terri's life. It might not even get a temporary reinsertion of a feeding tube.

This is my fear. Everyone will have to work late into the night like congress did today and that is unlikely. This case has many stops. I hope just with its passage it is enough to have her feeding tube put back in but I don't know that it is.

Has any talking heard on tv weighed in on this yet?
