US House of Rep. in an Extraordinary Sunday night Session [Schiavo] (Bush Signs Schiavo bill)

Posted on 03/20/2005 6:03:40 PM PST by FoxPro

This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).

The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they don’t want to be known as the party that killed Terri.

This is American history happening before your eyes.

I really don't think funeral homes have to push this to make money. Do you think they are going to run out of customers any time soon? I see your other points though.

Souder from IN talking about his wife who set up a program to teach people how to feed disabled people.

Resonates here - our 90 year old resident (Mrs don-o's father) recently broke an arm; now getting him fed takes a lot longer than before

There's a link over there where you can hear an interview w/ a nurse that cared for Terri. [Note: it won't open using FireFox, use IE.]

So I assume that if you are ill, you don't want very many tests done? I you have a brain injury, shall you withhold having a PET scan to determine the extent of your damage?

She shouldn't necessarily be starved to death but instead taken off the feeding tube and given a morphine drip that is absolutely humane in this instance.

I would prefer to live in a country that allows me to make that decision for myself, wouldn't you?

"Republicans want life for those who cannot speak for themselves, and Democrats want death for those who cannot speak for themselves."

A REGRETFUL amen to that...

"There is no neutral ground in the universe--every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan...."

"The very idea of freedom presupposes some objective moral law which overarches rulers and ruled alike...Unless we return to the crude and nursery-like belief in objective values, we perish."

Rep Frank THIS IS NOT A COURT OF LAW!

There is NO reason for a legislator be courtroom. In fact as a lawyer I can STONGLY SAY you NEVER want the legislature to be a courtroom. There is no election by perponderance of the evidence.

Brown-waite is a fool. This is the same woman who is a co-sponsor (i believe) to allow homosexuals to adopt children in FL. (I posted this on another thread here)
She is a RINO.

This three hour debate should be shown in philsophy classes in universities around the country. And in ethics courses at law schools and med schools.

It definitely is a clear cut debate between MORAL ABSOLUTISM (Republicans) vs. SITUATIONAL ETHICS (Democrats).

The Value of LIFE is inate and invaluable vs. the Value of LIFE is relative with respect to other factors such as convenience, cost, lifestyle, trouble, etc.

The Republicans may well be "Playing God", a charge brought by Democrats.

The Democrats are just plain 'Playing Adolf Eichmann'.
