"The governor is focusing on jobs because Michigan's unemployment rate in January, at 7.1 percent, was tied with Mississippi for second-highest in the nation. Only Alaska, at 7.4 percent, was higher."
With the price of gas going up, and the auto industry going down, that won't last long, particularly since Alaska stands to gain if the Congress allows drilling.
Yep, We can thank the uaw for this! My only hope is that the unions finally get busted up for this!
Granholm is dead meat.
Michigan is a political mess and it is not necessarily due to the current Governor.
but a lot of the blame can be placed upon her doorstep. Not to say that Engler was a winner...
Granholm will win handily in '06 because she will blame the MI House & Senate Republicans (echoed by the Detroit Media, especially the Detroit S'News and WDIV Ch.4), the fact that the MI GOP is already in near total disarray, and that Republicans have NO viable candidates. The only thing to save Michigan now is Candice Miller (who has the good sense to stay in Congress and go for a VP bid in '08). Sorry guys, but Granholm is safe, as is Stabenow.
OK, it appears that only women are considered viable in MI politics there days. Why fight the trend?

(Heck, we're half-way there with the campaign material already....)
It's all the rage in Michigan. Whatever can hold our attention on Channel 4 and 7 for more than 12 seconds!
Channel 7 & 4 (Traverse City) ran an editorial tonight taking the governor to task for hand picking nearly all of her personal choices for offices, from not only the lower half of the state but mostly below I-94 and reminding her that she was supposed to be governor for all of Michigan.
Gee, we TRIED to tell 'em.
It is going to be a great fight. Let's just hope a more exciting candidate comes around than Posthumus. I for one, will be relentless in fighting this Canuck. People are feeling the tax hikes everywhere and wondering what happened.
Like when a license tax for a little trailer goes from $14 to $75. The minions who installed this foreign carpetbagger are reaping what they have sowed.
I think the chances of booting her are pretty good. All those picture of her bawling next to Kerry are going to pay off too.
Ping.
Traverse City's TV folks have it right, but the GOP still needs a candidate. Western Michigan guys with strange sounding names won't cut it against Jenny. Candice Miller was their best shot and she ain't biting. Cox & Land (AG & Secretary of State, respectively) are waiting 'till 2010, and Miller will run for Senate (or VP) in 2008.
true, but she hasn't helped.
Is everyone in Michigan weak nowadays? We couldn't beat Blanchard in 90 either. The Dems couldn't beat Spence in 2000.
Granholm touts 'cool cities' and high taxes. If that ain't a hanging curveball, I don't know what is.
As for Stabenow, she hasn't written one law in 10 years, and voted 100% with Emily's list and the gun grabbers. She's also kept Michigan judges from. That's a hanging curveball. Hell, if I was 30, I'd run against Stab myself.
We can chicken out now, or we can fight.
In 2002, Posthumus could have won if we got off our ass and voted. Our "weak" candidate did better than Bush in 2000 and ran 5-6% ahead of even the closest 'polls'.
"Why bother voting. Granholm won anyway. She's impossible to beat. She'll get 90% of the vote and set all kinds of records...blah blah blah.".
Dead reckoning. FReeper HLL did better than Bush in that impossible district for example and is proof in the pudding. To swing the state it is about outstate turnout, forget AA, Detroit, Flint, Saginaw and other MI cancers. We CAN make this place red.
Did I miss something? Did HLL run for an office?
I ran for US Congress in 2004.
