have him prepare a living will and there will be no fights. it is the prudent thing to do. it should NEVER come down to undocumented hearsay if there is a dispute.

That's the larger lesson learned from this. It will certainly avoid the fighting and bickering between family members.

I think I could even understand wanting to move on with your life (though it wouldn't be the ideal, and it wouldn't be what God would want someone to do, imo) - it's this stubborn unwillingness to let her own parents care for her that sets off the sirens for me.

I would never do that to my husband in a million years.

no, it should not. if you want to be absolutely positive then get it in writing. the termination of life should NEVER come down to hearsay even between spouses. it would be for your own protection and that of your husband. they are available online, it is hardly difficult to accomplish.

I'm not Catholic bashing. I'm just saying that people expect Michael, who has not taken a vow of celibacy to live as if he has. He is just as human as any catholic priest.

Why did Congress wait until the end of last week...

The U.S. Congress waited until this last week, hoping that Florida would take care of this state problem. They didn't.

I'm surprised.

In fact, I'm incredulous.

I may have him do that... but if the law is such that I can legally speak for him then that should be legally sufficient should it not?

Don't make the same mistake the Schiavo's and the Schindler's made.

***Swallowing saliva is different than swallowing water or taking in food.***

If you can swallow saliva properly without it aspirating into your lungs, you can swallow water, even soft foods. I know this from long time experience with family member.

What are you talking about? Is this Howlin talking? He went on and on yesterday on a tear about whether Terri could get a divorce. I still say she can, if she can get the right guardian and a lawyer. Are you also wanting to know if I'm a Fla lawyer? I'm not.

There's no statue that I know of that would label Michael Schiavo "Bluebeard" for wanting one wife dead when he has another wife waiting for her ring. Sheesh. Not written in Black Letter Law yet, I don't think.

But I think anyone looking on with a lick of sense would be suspicious of the motives--especially with a real, true, four-member blood-related family that doesn't want to see her dead.

This case is bringing on dementia...

Her family did try to care for her early on and even they had to readmit her medical care because even they could not fully see to her medical needs.

indeed, and everyone should do it, it is an intensely personal thing that has everyone's emotions white-hot. i see so much of the emotion here stemming from people's own personal experiences or situations.

That's nice. But Terri's medical doctors seem to be in disagreement with you.

i was not addressing you, marajade, thedeejay stepped over the line with her comments on the Catholic church. it was unnecessary and is offtopic to this thread, as well as extremely inappropriate.

Let's see, can't be her mother-in-law, because Michael starved her already.

Can't be her father-in-law, because Michael starved him already.

thanks but I really do believe that many feel Michael should be living life as a saint in order to justify him feeling that he is honoring Terri.

exactly. i think anyone could understand him being human and wanting to move on. some might still vilify him by not sticking by her, but that would NOT be the majority opinion of him. BUT, moving on, while she is still alive, and fighting to have her life terminated (regardless of his stated reason) is highly suspect in light of the new family he has. made even more so, by her own family's willingness to assume her care.

Yes, sadly.
Follow the posts back and you'll see.
Although she [Diva Betsy Ross] backtracked a bit after I posted that.

Ping to "she." Just helping enforce the FR courtesy regarding calling the party that one is discussing.
