Patti Davis, Ronald Reagans renegade daughter, has an article in the current Newsweek titled Dirty Footprints in which she pleads, We must write letters of outrage to the senators who voted to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). But maybe all there is left to do is weep. When I saw the news today, I sat down and wept.
Davis continues with, President Bush must be feeling so victorious. The Senate has now said yes to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refugethe pristine place President Eisenhower took measures to protect in 1960.
She laments, Environmental groups have said the fight isnt over, and I want to believe there is still something we can dowrite letters, e-mails, rise up en masse and say no. But I dont know if anything will help at this point. Its possible that the only thing we will be able to do is weepat the devastation of wild, untamed land where caribou are free to breed and give birth far away from the harm that humans bring. Where polar bear are a common sight and where cars and trucks and engines are never heard. Where people are outnumbered by the vast numbers of birds and animalssafe for the moment, but soon to be doomed.

Gee, I wonder what kind of vehicle/s Patty Davis drives...?

Everything is a war to this president, and he is determined to win.
And win he will.
Outstanding post. Perfect choice. Weepy, Whiney Liberal.
Most critters in rut will breed in a WalMart parking lot. They don't need the 'perfect' setting. There will be plenty of land left over.
"safe for the moment, but soon to be doomed.
Can't accuse the left of overstatement, no sir. These ANWAR caribou will be as doomed as those North Slope caribou who we know are now wiped out.
This is nothing more than weepy sentimentality with not even a nod toward the facts. One can only hope the species to be wiped out in all this will be silly sentimental environmentalists.
South Park episode last week made the same point. Title was "Die Hippie, Die!"

Patti Daviss New Literary Frontier
A lesbian novel.
Will Patti Daviss rebellious phase ever end? Shes married her yoga instructor, copped to getting high, lived with a member of the Eagles, and posed for Playboy. But Ronald Reagans daughter still isnt done challenging family values. Sources report that the author of a novel about Nicaragua and two memoirs about her family has begun working on a novel about straight women who have a lesbian affair. A Knopf spokesman confirmed shes at work on a novel but said, We do not as a rule characterize the story lines of works in progress.

She's crazy as a loon.
Classic liberal tripe. They always think the angles are on their side and if only the sheeple would see things correctly, they would be equally indignant.
Caribou are not that much different that white tails. I live in a fairly urban area and white tails breed less than a couple thousand yards from this computer on which I type.
I know a couple of guys who have filled their whitetail buck tags by shooting one 'out of the saddle', so to speak, while standing on the shoulder of the road. (I would have at least let him finish...)

Then, she skipped off to join her local neighborhood pro-abortion rally.
Of course that wouldn't have happened if there was some oil production facility in the vicinity. < /sarcasm>
So now the caribou are doomed on the North Slope!
Then why is it that the DAILY hunting limit on Caribou is FIVE? That's each day, no closed season.

Polar bear are NOT a common sight.
People are NOT out-numbered by vast numbers of birds and animals.
Drilling up there will ATTRACT more animals, not doom them, just like it did at North Slope.
(Been there, seen that, unlike Ms. Davis)
I saw that. I nearly busted a gut laughing. Cartman rocks!
