Of course that wouldn't have happened if there was some oil production facility in the vicinity. < /sarcasm>

Actually, this is an oil producing area. One of the things you watch for when you sight in on a deer is production equipment. I have been on a drilling rig and watched deer run across the location to evade hunters.

We also have to put flags (like used car lots) over the reserve pit to keep waterfowl from landing there, and fence around the pit to keep animals from drinking out of it. All required on Federal leases. Go Figure.
