Sen. Byrd ‘inclined to run’ for re-election

Sen. Robert Byrd said Wednesday he’s "inclined to run" next year for the Senate seat he’s held since 1959.

"I’m inclined to run, but I’m not making any announcement today," said Byrd, who has spent 52 years in Congress, longer than anyone currently serving. "I’m studying about it, thinking about it, talking about it with my friends and people in West Virginia."

Byrd, 87, long has been considered virtually unbeatable in West Virginia, a state to which he has directed billions of dollars in federal money.

The eight-term senator has been Senate majority leader and the chairman of the check-writing Appropriations Committee.

He’s known for his deep knowledge of the Constitution and is the most ardent champion of Senate tradition.

It would be nice to see him beaten rather than just replaced by default.

"This is one guy the courts outta put out of its misery! Starving him to death would be a good start!"

Hey, Robert Byrd did once stipulate the conditions of his death (this is no joke):

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, then to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throw back to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

Where's Judge Greer to help out....?

"The eight-term senator has been"

Well, they got one part of it right. Unfortunately, this guy has delivered so WV may yet re-elect him.

No, c'mon, Sheets...hang up the sheets. Go retire. Live in Florida. Do something useful with your life. Walk a dog. Play shuffleboard. Take a cruise. Just get out of the Senate.

It is a win-win: Republicans will get another Senate seat, and Democrats will be rid of their longest-serving current embarassment. (Until The Swimmer gives it up.)

The US Senate obviously has a better "retirement plan" than the KKK.

Well I just hope the voters in W. Virginia are inclined to vote against him if he is inclined to run. He's an embarassment to his state, the Senate.........you name it.

Well, the Democrats like him. They consider Bobby Sheets to be a voice of morality for them.

Yep. Still living in the past. Never mind he's an old fool, a joke. He gives me the willies just looking at him.
