Terri's husband isn't the enemy, guardian says
Orlando Sentinel ^ | February 25, 2005 | Mike Thomas

Wolfson's report is based on court files, depositions, medical records and interviews with everyone involved.

That said, I begin with the most explosive allegation:

Did Michael try to kill Terri?

Wolfson laughs. "No!"

-----

Wolfson's report states that in the four years after her collapse, Michael "had insistently held to the premise that Theresa could recover and the evidence is incontrovertible that he gave his heart and soul to her treatment and care . . . In late autumn of 1990, following months of therapy and testing and formal diagnoses of persistent vegetative state with no evidence of improvement, Michael took Theresa to California, where she received an experimental thalamic stimulator implant in her brain. Michael remained in California caring for Theresa during a period of several months."

Says Wolfson now: "Michael was adoring of her. One nursing home complained he was hostile and abusive of the staff in championing her care. She was immaculately kept. In 13 years, she never had one bedsore."

I think it was all litigated in court and gotten to the bottom of.

What seems to be more of the problem is that there are certain groups of people that see nothing wrong with twisting fact, omitting facts and making up facts to suit their agenda.

These people are giving the rest of the Right Wing a bad very bad name.

HILDY, Recently, I helped a FRIEND whose parents and siblings (one of whom was her guardian) wanted to keep her in a nursing home for the rest of her life against her will, gain her freedom. And her husband, who abandoned her, was no better than her "family." My friend as it turns out, was as selfish and self-centered as everyone else, though it goes without saying she shouldn't have been institutionalized for it.

Did I WANT to view any of the parties negatively??? No. But it became all too apparent. In the beginning, attempting to tell who was lying and who was truthful was quite a difficult task.

Thus, I have already considered the possibility that both parties in Terri's scenario could have ulterior motives. If I thought the Schindlers were about money, I would eventually see it, no matter what I wanted to believe. I just don't see it.

I am relying more on the actions of the parties to make my judgement about who to support. You seem to be depending upon words, specifically the words of Michael Schiavo to formulate your judgement about the issue.

ANY man who would STARVE his wife to death is MORALLY SUSPECT. Michael is an unusually manipulative and resourceful person who could have any one of a number of motives, and I do suspect there is more than one. HONOR, NOBILITY and LOYALTY to his wife are not among them. If Michael is an example of the modern day GOOD husband, I will remain happily single.

Dozens of doctors say that Terri is PVS. If that is not the case, then I do have a strong opinion. .But I've yet to read anything to convince me otherwise and so I remain conflicted on many levels about this case.

Bill Frist has some doubts.

Spot on!

This is very worrisome. I think it is time to waive some free speech issues when it comes to fabricated statements to members of Congress and the press that are disseminated as truths.

I would very much like to see some prosecutions or some corrections. How ever they manage to get it done.

When the Schindlers found out they wouldn't be getting ANY of the malpractice lawsuit $$$, they DID NOT visit Terri for months & months!

No one was stopping them.

Only when they figured out to use the MSM, did they resume visits w/Terri.

It was the ONLY leverage they could use against Michael.

I don't like the fact that he is making presumptive medical statements or assumptions of doubt without having read or seen medical reports/tests or even seeing TS himself.

And that is Ok to do that, (err on the side of life I mean).

But I consider that sound bite that has leaked over the Internet to be another one of those hyped of fallacies.

It is an interesting article. Hope I didn't do anything wrong from taking another clip from the article. As I just said on another thread, I wonder how many 'conservatives' will be glad once they realize what kind of power they're handing over to the national government if Congress does get involved. I feel for the family and the husband but after reading what the parents want to do, that's just sick.

I am just trying to figure out how this has become the MOST civil TS thread thus far!!

Thank all of you for being so well mannered and adult like in your conversations.

Maybe others will catch on.

There is some things, just not right about the parents.

Their entire demeanor each time I see them on tv, doesn't seem right.

I can't watch or listen to them anymore.

I'm glad you showed that clip. If I had it to do over, I would have picked that one instead of the one I did, since apparently many here are not going the Sentinel site to read the rest of the article. Too bad. There will soon come a day when nearly all articles will have to be excerpted.

More grist for the mill. I don't have a clue what the below actually means substantively or procedurally. This was from the Washington Post, and similar commentary was in the NY Times.

"Rep. James Sensenbrenner, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said the legislation would move the case to federal court where a judge would determine who has the legal right to decide the question of nutrition and hydration for Schiavo and whether they can be terminated."

What makes you think he is? He's generally a fairly careful guy about these kinds of things.
