Frist Threatens Jail for Terri Judge(Shiavo Feeding)
Newsmax ^ | 3/19/05

Posted on 03/19/2005 8:00:19 AM PST by beyond the sea

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday that subpoenas issued by Sen. Mike Enzi compelling Terri Schiavo to appear at a March 28 congressional hearing made it a crime to disconnect her feeding tube - and threatened anyone who interfered with her testimony with jail.

In a statement issued by the majority leader's office, Frist said:

"Federal criminal law protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness’ attendance or testimony."

"More specifically," said the Senate's top Republican, "the law protects a witness from anyone who - by threats, force, or by any threatening letter or communication - influences, obstructs, or impedes an inquiry or investigation by Congress.

"Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment," Frist said.

His comments appeared to be directed at Florida state judge George Greer, who brazenly defied the Enzi subpoena on Friday and ordered Schiavo's starvation to commence.

Frist's statement echoed comments by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who said late Friday that he intended to charge Greer with contempt of Congress.

"No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he complained.

"I read somewhere yesterday that she would be getting morphine, which affects respiratory function--it depresses it. It will hasten her death."

Unless you have a source, the only place that I read that was right here on a different thread that was pulled because it was 'unsubstantiated'.

People are just sluggish, lazy, and uninspired slobs. It WILL NEVER HAPPEN! NEVER!

This is what scares me. Is there anything that will cause people to give up the comfort of their lifestyles to actually fight for any of our rights.

...And in the last few weeks, people were wondering out loud why judges are being gunned down...

Big difference. One is innocent and is fighting to survive. The other is guilty of a capital crime and deserves his punishment.

Methinks Mr. Madison hath protested overmuch.

His bloviating notwithstanding, the objections of the antifederalists have been established by the weight of history.

Now then, how shall we proceed?

"If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress. ...

Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America."

These subpoenas should not have been issued in the first place. That being said, once issued, Congress now has little choice but to enforce them.

I find myself in complete agreement with you.

This whole issue is tearing me apart. I have been on Terri's side for this whole ordeal, and fully believe in my heart that what Michael Shiavo is doing and what Judge Greer and the florida courts are allowing is nothing short of murder.

That said, I think it is a very slippery slope we are heading down with congress meddling in a state affair, and with the possibility of Federal marshall's being used to usurp the authority what is basically a solely state decision and issue.

If the feds burst in and reinsert Terri's tube, I will cheer the fact that Terri's murder has been stopped, but will mourn for the destruction of the individual right's of our states.

As much as I abhore what is happening, Feds getting involved in this is no different than the federal kidnapping and deportation of Elian Gonzales.

" Now THAT is a huge conflict isn't it?"

Yes it is!

So what is your point?

My statement was a 'conflict of interest' regarding the Judge appointing himself as guardian.

That, by itself is HUGE conflict. Is it not?

Thanks so much for your kind words. I'll pass them along and they will be much appreciated.

I agree, not all judges are bad. The ones who value the Marshal's protective services, are adored by their protectors! The Marshals have favorite judges, too.

Yep. The Constitution is dead.

For Terri, it apparently is. With people like you running around thinking that the Constitution is meant to protect "The States" over and above "The People," it most certainly IS dead.

You actually hit the nail on the head with your statement. That is WHY the femanazis have been silent, as well as the ACLU. If the American people actually understand the facts of the case and tie her right to life with the unborn child's right to life there'd be hell to pay in this nation. And that is what Terri is to be sacrificed for - the right to have abortions - early and late terms. Not kidding. Top that off with the new 'bioethics' going around - if they can do this, it will be only a while before 'useless' people will be 'harvested' to help 'useful' people.

Before anyone says this lady is crazy...think about the abortion issue: Do you really think those cowardly judges who allowed murder to the 'useless, unable-to-feed-themselves' babies to be come legal actually beleaved it would come to partial birth abortions?? Nope. No a one of them... However....someone...somewhere....in the abortion movement sure was seeing it....just down the road....out of sight...

Contact Attorney General Alberto Gonzales @ 1.202.307.6777 fax. He has sworn to defend the Law of the Land -- and we/ Terri have inalienable Rights, from the Creator, of LIFE, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

"But a judge sitting in jail for awhile can also serve as a warning to any other ACLU-types out there who think they can get away with snubbing the political will of the American people, too."

The problem is they've been giving the middle finger to the rule of law for so long that they don't take threats seriously. They've been MAKING law rather than interpreting it. They are now arrogant and defiant.

I agree that if this guy had any balls he'd arrest this arrogant as*hole and starve HIM while he is in jail.
