Congressional leaders are playing a dangerous game with their intrusion into the hotly publicized fight in Florida over maintaining life support for a severely brain-damaged woman. With state legislative and court appeals being exhausted, the House and Senate began some grim one-upsmanship to stop the removal of the feeding tube from Terri Schiavo. She is the 41-year-old woman who has been in a persistent vegetative state for the last 15 years, with her parents contesting that sad diagnosis. They also challenged the careful decisions by Florida's trial and appellate courts, based largely on the testimony of her husband that their daughter would have chosen to die rather than live indefinitely in such condition.
Congress seized the issue in the closing hours of its March budget debate. After bungled attempts to grant federal court review of the case, leaders of the two houses blamed each other for Ms. Schiavo's potential demise. They then landed on the ghoulish gimmick of postponing removal of her feeding tube by subpoenaing her to a House hearing and inviting her to a separate hearing in the Senate. The Senate majority leader, Bill Frist, said that criminal law protects witnesses called before Congress "from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness's attendance or testimony."
After considering the issue yesterday, the state appellate judge presiding over the case ordered the removal of Ms. Schiavo's feeding tube to proceed, finding Congress's intervention created no "emergency" requiring postponement. No doubt this is not the end of this painful drama. Meanwhile we can only lament the Republicans' theatrical effort to expand their so-called pro-life agenda to include intervening in a case already studied and litigated exhaustively under Florida law. Congress's rash assumption of judicial power and trampling on established state and federal constitutional precedents in "right to die" cases is nothing short of breathtaking.
Why should anybody be suprised about the NYT supporting the murder of Terri?
They still insist that Stalin did nothing wrong in the Ukraine! What's one more death to the NYT, when they've helped to cover up tens of millions of deaths, just to further the hard core leftist agenda?

It's good to know where you stand. Black's civil rights = good. White woman's civil rights = disgusting. We definitely have nothing to debate.
All the testimony has been heard, all the unbiased medical tests have been done. How many times does the same evidence have to be presented? All the issues raised have been considered by the courts at least once. And the decision was made in accordance with the laws of the state of Florida. Lastly, the Congressional subpoena was not legal. Again, I say that simply because we don't like the decision does not mean the courts did not do their job.
What do you expect from a newspaper that covered up the Holocaust?
Yes, they did their job, but they arrived at the wrong conclusion. They are human beings, just like the rest of us.
Have they ever weighed in on the Sunny Von Bulow case?
As I've said in other threads, the only deaths that leftists support are those of innocents. Murderers, like Ted Bundy (thankfully now gone, thanks to the death penalty, but of course, the sentence was protested by leftists) get leftist protests and endless appeals through the judicial system. But an innocent? Hey, you've got people like that monster who's chairman of the "bioethics" department at Princeton, Singer, who's all for the killing of disabled children! You've got the people who supported the release of that predatory animal who it now seems has molested and then murdered the little girl in Florida. He had his supporters before his release, and you know that he's going to get more if he's convicted and gets the death sentance...
But innocent children, in the womb? Or Terri? Not a stinking peep! "Kill `em all, and kill `em quick! Then sweep it under the rug!"

Yes, certainly. I'm sure we could scrounge up a couple of Killer Docs from Nederland or something. They like to take care of these problems.
But can she communicate her state to us? If she is truly conscious, she should be able to communicate, even if it is just a code composed of blinking her eyes in a sequence to answer questions. If she cannot communicate, then I don't care what any video purports to show. Better yet, give us an MRI of her brain and show us something is going on there.
I am tired of tax money going to every pet cause under the sun. If this is just another welfare case, then pull the plug, remove the tubes, and let's be done with it.
all the unbiased medical tests have been done. that were allowed to be done
How many times does the same evidence have to be presented? How many times can a judge refuse to hear evidence?
All the issues raised have been considered by the courts court just one court and one judge
at least once. And the decision was made in accordance with the laws of the state of Florida. Flatly, not true.
Lastly, the Congressional subpoena was not legal. Care to point out how it was illegal?
Did you notice how carefully the 9/11 terrorists were to avoid the New York Times. They know their brothers in arms FUR SHUR.
I realized what the Liberals remind me of. When growing up ever knew a little monster that would hurt a puppy or kitten to get a reaction from others.
Be it Ellian or Terri they are feeding off of our outrage and concern.
What plug?
In the end we're going to have to do something about this cult of death ~ maybe give them what they want, eh?
How about your "ex wife" (should you ever have one). Would you wish her to have a "say" on pulling your plug?
Well said. This recent case has really changed my perception of 'Conservatives'. I had always thought WE were the ones who never had knee jerk emotional reactions...
It's time for the US Army to take over the place ~ and, oh, yes, put the sword to the rebels.
You need to take the time to check your facts. Why don't you start here:
