DeLay Pledges Contempt Charge for Terri Judge

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."

"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.

Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."

"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.

Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.

But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."

The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.

DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."

Archon,

So you want a simple law. I will agree, if I can write it. If you agree let us move on. It seems obvious that Judge Greer agrees with you,...he made the law and is the executioner also.

As long as the families believe there is intrinsic value in all life. The number of loved ones who "want to die," I belive, is a small fraction of people.

Everyone I know off this site has said the same thing to me for years when discussing this.
"For God's sake don't let them hook me up with tubes if something happens to me. Just let me die."

I don't know a single person who doesn't have a Living Will saying just that.

DeLay better be able to deliver, but I fear his mouth is writing checks his "seat" can't cover.

Don't tempt me. I just posted on another thread that the fact that there's all this soapbox standing pontificating going on today, even from Tom Delay and even from Pres. Bush, and where were these people weeks ago when something could have been done? I'm sure everyone thought SOMEone was going to step forward and stop this gruesome parade. But no. Today is a monument to failed political processes, colossal cowardice, lack of moral leadership, lack of will, and fecklessness on the part of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches at all levels of government. I'm in favor of burning the whole worthless structure down and starting from scratch.

Interesting that you bring in the Identity Movement affiliation alleged to Bo Griz, then twist it to suggest the folks who like Bo Griz want to bring in whacked out racists from the mountains.

Why didn't you argue that since Bo Griz tried to kill himself that these folks are also trying to bring in the "right to die" people so they can save Terri?

Now that'd be a full-circle argument that'd put you in the ranks of the Liberal big boys.

Then you could start chanting "Osama Bama" all day, ad fit right in.

You are advocating the starvation death of an innocent human being

Where did I do that? I am arguing the law and state-versus-federal jurisdiction here.

I wish that the Florida Legislature had addressed this years ago, that Michael Schiavo had divorced Terri and gone on with his life.

You are advocating that we simply bend the law to suit our desires. I won't be a party to that, because, should it prevail, that bending will come around against what you and I want, some day.

I love you like a brother, but you are imputing motives to me that I do not have, and I resent it. Good night.

If you mean it's God's decision, fine, then let him feed her himself.

You're an idiot. Is that you're criteria for the state executing citizens? And the state makes the decision pal. You're just not smart enough to understand the courts holdings. When they come for you and your "nine" call somebody else.

Because this isn't about hypotheticals. This is about a living, breathing human being (as oppposed to the family pet who has more protections)! I'm curious as to have to explain that to you! As I said, Michael has a live-in girlfriend and two children by her. That is not "typical" and you cannot use that in your "hypothetical" argument!

So much for State's rights. Didn't conservatives used to believe in those?

Why didn't the House just sign off on the Senate Bill? Why did they adjourn? I really don't get it. As I have posted elsewhere, it is just a buy time maneuver to an end that does not appear within reach, but that is another matter.

Dead people can't talk.

Michael has much to fear IF Terri can be rehabilitated.

He values freedom more then money. He doesn't want to go to jail. He wants her dead. Taking the money would also look like an admission of guilt - so he can't take it. He'll have to settle for the malpractice money.

It's a shame that adultery is no longer a crime. He killed his marriage when he entered into another relationship with another woman. Most certainly with the first or maybe the second child.

The source of Sinspur's incessant and trenchant antagonism toward the Christian Conservative social agenda is his bigoted anti-Protestantism.

It was his bigotry that led him to the exactly opposite conclusion in the case of Judge Moore. The contradiction doesn't matter to him because he will always err in favor of opposing the hated "religious right."

Terri can't respond if she's dead. Greer ordered her murder to begin. Witness tampering. Kind of like he put a hit out on her.
