DeLay Pledges Contempt Charge for Terri Judge

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."

"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.

Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."

"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.

Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.

But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."

The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.

DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."

No one on this site had to withdraw food and water from anyone, they chose to. The same with the anchors on Fox news.

Yep. Something like that. There's also the FReepers calling for the governor to unleash the National Guard, for the President to let loose the Legions (the FBI and Federal Marshalls), and for the drawing and quartering of a sitting judge and a man who has been convicted of NO CRIME in th e15 years this thing has gone on. Oh, and there's also the apparent warming up of relations betwixt FReepers and "jackbooted thugs".

You know, one weak possible benefit of cases like this, with their hothouse, crucible nature, is that they reveal much about people. Hell, I've even seen people defending the involvement of Christian Identity and Neo-Nazi groups "if it could help".

When did Terri get her last nutritional supplement? Was it, like, 8 a.m. or so. If so, she is nearly 20 hours without food or water already while the "Republicans" in Congress impersonate Nero.

Witness tampering. Terri was served a subpoena to testify.

He's had two seperate offers, but he won't take them. What good is 10 mil to him if his wife gets better and can tell the world what he did to her? Can't spend 10 million from a prison cell.

Have you ever seen a person with only a functional brain stem? Following movement across the field in front of them is not how a decerebrate person with only a brainstem responds. Brainstems do not say "I love you" to their mother, as is reported copiously.

Your statistics are still in error. The other cases you cite do not have the same characteristics as this case.

We can't cast our wives aside (by STARVING them) when things don't go our way.

But then, you knew what I meant.

We are really reaching now aren't we? A subpoena is not some magic carpet that sweeps all before it. It is simply an order to appear, to which the guardian must respond. Nothing more, nothing less. Greer is not a party.

You are dancing all around the key issue here: No one knows WHAT Terrri wants! So how about we let her live and give her therapy so perhaps she can someday tell us?

It really is the pits when people inconvenience us, isn't it?

You don't have to be guilty of a crime to be impeached. The Congress calls for an impeachment and after much angst, they vote.

How does Schiavo have a common law wife? He's legally married to Terri.

He has a mistress.

How does he have a "conflict of interest?" He is the spouse of Terri, in law, and can make the decision he's making.

More murderous polemic bravo siera.

Michael has no marital relationship with his 'wife' other than a technical legal one. And so far the laws have been misinterpreted by leftist judges hell-bent on changing this nations love and commitment to all human life.

We dont need latter-day Nazis redefining it for us.

I think that Mr. Schiavo turned down an offer of a substantial sum of money a few days ago. It doesn't seem as if money is the motivating factor here.

Well actually he'd be in a world of legal hurt if he dropped his ball at such an offer. He knows that even if the Schindlers settle for peace, tens of thousands who want his head on a post will not.

That analogy fails on several levels. I'm sure you have a good point, but you'll have to make a better example for me to discern it.

Calling Terris' parents crazy is so lame.

All these people you cite....did their relatives have a living will? If so, you have no arguement.

He ordered the subpoenas to be ignored

Really? I missed that one. I cannot imagine why he would do that.
