House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."
"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.
Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."
"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.
Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.
But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."
The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.
DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."
that is an insult. to WORMS
poing
I think the rules are a little different if the contempt reults in someones death.
or his electibility
"That lawyer's assertion that those who are doing their best to save Terri's life are "Stalinists" has to be the most insane comment I've ever heard."
Michael Shiavo had some choice words for the Congressmen who tried to save Terri, words and phrases applicable to him.
Today has been a horrible day, with Terri and little Jessica. I just got home from taking my cousin to her cancer traeatment, she's become partially paralyzed this last week from her cancer pressing on her spine. I was hoping for goods news when I got home. Actually, it's been a rotten month, a rotton year really. There's an evil spirit prowling about. Two other friends have had major health problems this month, and one of my elderly friends lost his wife, son and best friend in one month. My heart breaks for them all.
Greer is a representative of the FL Bar board of Governors. His arrogance speaks volumes.
The Board of Governors did a paper vote to prevent the family law section from lobbying to end the ban on homosexual adoption BUT the lawyers of the family law section did it anyways.
Felos is a fruitloop. He would NEVER accept a compromise because of his own agenda of right to die. Felos only represents Felos.
Agenda lawyers like him are a huge problem now exposed.
consequences should flow for both Felos and Greer. in spades.
Brian Gene Nichols missed his calling by a few days didn't he.
If she die, the entire Schivo, Greer, and Felios cartel should be charged with first degree murder and tampering with a federal witness.
The Governor can intervene? Didn't know that...I'm not up to speed on constitutional law, at all. What are the Governor's options and are they feasible?
Hey, that's an insult to Froot Loops.
hmmm... prosecute him for murder and give him death penalty, that is death by starvation and dehydration. real slow. while we're at it let's throw in Mikey and Felos
Hehehehehe!!!
I don't advocate murder of any kind, but if only he had traveled a little south?????
I should not say stuff like this. That makes me worse or on their level.
We must trust God to help.
Let me ask you this. Can the courts order Congress to pass a particular bill?
The only action we got today was Greer giving Congress the finger, before he tucked tail and hid, now he's unavailabe for comment.
Let's not get carried away. He's a politician riding a wave of popular opinion.
I hope that's on payperview. I'd pay money to see that especially if they handcuff the bastard. Is it too much to hope he resists?
I hate to look at it that way (#48) but instead of Greer, a well-loved judge died a horrible death. I have to believe that God has good reasons.
