DeLay Pledges Contempt Charge for Terri Judge

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."

"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.

Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."

"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.

Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.

But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."

The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.

DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."

You remind me of Thomas More's future son-in-law in "A Man for all Seasons," who said he would strike down every law, if it meant getting the devil himself.

Thats funny, and I was just thinking how you remind me of Beria.

OK, just lash out at Greer. By then, Teri will be long dead. It appears that the only out is Congress passing a denial of nutrition law, passed within a few weeks, assuming the procedural buy time law is passed in time. That won't happen. If it does, Kennedy will get to write eventually one of his soaring prose pieces, where he observes that the right of liberty of the person to explore the universe freed from this mortal coil in all its spatial dimensions, has been denied. And then at last, Teri can be finally dehydrated to death, and left to explore the stars. But as I said, it at least appears will be spared another Kennedy special.

My wife can't find the living will

One would hope you'd keep a living will in a safe place.

""Sinkspur wrote: No. But Michael Schiavo has been offered 10 million dollars to divorce Terri."""

I've never heard of such a ridiculous spin by Felos the lawyer of Schiavo. He never produced a name that I'm aware of. It's real easy to say some one gave an offer of 10,000,000 dollars.

It doesn't matter anyway. This is Murder and Fraud by the Judical Branch. Judge Greer is a RINO.

Check this link out and you'll see lots of fraud:

Theologically, the FL hurricanes had nothing to do with the brutal treatment of an innocent handicapped woman. They were the result of original sin from Adam, or what? God pours it on the just and the unjust.

There are a lot of anecdotes. There is zero evidence.

There is more evidence for Terri being there than there is for you, and that is a certainty.

What in God's name is going on here about Terri Schaivo?! Why are there so many Forum threads on this? She's a living brain stem only, there are no higher functions... let her husband fulfill her wishes to rest in peace. If everyone thinks he is only trying to kill her off for the insurance money, then pool your cash and offer it to him as an incentive to divorce her. If he does not take it, then you know he is doing it out of his love and respect for her. She has been dead a long time now. A brain stem will let the body breathe and eliminate wastes. From what I have heard, she has no higher brain functions. This is different than someone who is in a coma and has these functions and might one day wake up....
Why is my federal government getting involved in this state matter?! This is NOT what I want out of my Republican leadership, an over extending federal grip on some nonsense about one woman on whom local courts have already judged. Calling her body and brain stem to Congress is outrageous to say the least. We have a LOT of problems I need my Republican leadership to concern themselves with, like using the Constitutional option to get judges on the bench, getting more oil, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, a whole host of matters. Terry Schaivo is not a Federal matter.... having Bush call in Federal Agents to take possession of her body is ludicrous, and if it happened the Republican party would start its downslide back into minority city. Remember, a lot of average Americans like me are Republican and we are not keen on watching a bunch of zealots with their bibles in their hands trying to make an issue out of a brain stem. Away with this issue you should put. Concentrate on more practical matters at hand if you can. Maybe a good thing can come out of this, like pushing for folks to explicitly put in writing thier wishes if they should lose their brain functions and/or become dependent on machines. I sure did after this... I don't want my body and brain stem paraded up to Congress someday or become fodder for the media. Go write spell out your wishes today or this could happen to you. And ask yourself one thing, I know if my wife had expressed a desire not to be artificially kept alive, I would do everything I could to try to fulfill her wishes... even if they were not written down.

Tom DeLay is one person in the Congress that never changes in his convictions. The Demonrats have tried to stop him at every turn, to destroy him (note this ethics crap he's going through right now). I just wish they were all like him. Sure makes me proud to be a Texan.

Joe, if you have an argument, let's hear it. Otherwise, go start a pornography thread.

What does this have to do with Porn? You must just have pornography on the brain.

You condemned Moore as an anarchist for refusing an unconstitutional order. Now you defend Greer from "grandstanding" partisanship. Where were your excuses when Moore was targeted by the Godless left? You are perfectly willing to defend Greer's lawlessness because it helps your "religious right" bashing agenda. You are a dirty hypocrite who discards the law when it serves your bigotry against certain denominations that you don't like.

Now go back to your filthy magazines, pervert.

In any case, why are you so hell-bent to give the power of life and death to some judge, because "it's the law"? I can think of alot of bad laws that have been over-turned.And that is the essence of the argument: what is RIGHT and what is WRONG.

Or does it somehow offend you that this woman's family is willing to care for her?

The law needs to be simple enough to be understandable. Giving the decision to the spouse with the aproval of a judge is the choice in all 50 states, because it is what the vast majority want. That is the best man can do, write simple laws that are mostly right and hope that you aren't one of those cases it messes up.

What offends me is the idea of replacing a generally good, if flawed law with a slapped together piece of drivel that will harm thousands every year in order to save one woman weho did nothing to save herself by preparing a living will or chosing a trustworthy husband.

Greer has a second (or is it third?) wife who works for the Tampa (or is it St. Petersburg) newspaper?

Graymatter: I don't suppose you can provide a link for that?

Sinkspur: No. But Michael Schiavo has been offered 10 million dollars to divorce Terri.

And you know this, how?

Suddenly I get there. My wife can't find the living will, although she knows what I want. My parents argue about it. Is that what you want?

Suppose Bill Gates sends me a check for $10,000, but my wife misplaces it. Should I be able to go to my bank and tell them that Bill Gates wrote me a check for $10,000 so they should just give me the money? If not, are you trying to imply that you want me to be cheated out of $10,000 that Bill Gates signed over to me?

I've always liked Tom DeLay, but his arrogance here is overwhelming.

He subpoenas a witness and the Judge ignores him, and you think deLay is the arrogant one? You're an idiot.

Tom DeLay may have wonderful convictions, and I think he does, but he badly, badly mishandled the congressional events of this week regarding poor Terri.

Take the beam out of your own eye, Pharisee. Aren't you glad you're not like the rest of men?

You're the Pharisee Deacon. You are advocating the starvation death of an innocent human being. Nothing in Christian teaching or the Supreme Law of this country justifies any such thing. You should listen to Pope John Paul II once in a while when he speaks on Catholic dogma and then read the court decisions. Using the Terri Schiavo case and SpongeBob in the same sentence is disgusting.
